What kind of Bass Strings does Hook use?

In particular, for his 30" short scale bass - is it flatwound or roundwound? All I found so far is that he uses Newtone strings on his shortscale 6-string bass with the gauges 100, 080, 060, 050, 050, 045. Thanks!

No idea what you're on about bud. But I just stick some Ernie Balls on both me 69 Fender Jazz and Washburn fretless.

What strings do you use? Elite Bass Sensors. They’re fantastic. I use really heavy strings: .060, .065, .080, .105. They’re like tree trunks, and very hard on the fingers. Since I play high all the time, that’s how I get the strong-sounding bottom end. I also strung my 6-string with heavy strings, .050, .050, .060, .065, .085, .105. So it sounds nice and tight, but it kills your fingers after a couple of weeks off.

Nice grab! I'm off to the shop then! And if you're curious, I'm going to put them on this '76 Fender Mustang modded to have a Gibson "Mudbucker" as a pickup. Hope this little neck can handle 105s!

Surely it's only the Shergold 6 that is shorter than normal, and his four stringers are standard guage.

30" is not really "short scale" as such, I think an actual shortscale or "student" bass is 24 or 26", used to have one, they are great if you put standard guage stings on them....dead slinky.

I'm trying to learn to play thicker strings, cos I am used to playing lights or extralights, fuckin 32-92 if I can get em, but usually 35-95. Currently have 40-100's and will be getting 45-105 next time.

As a Hooky rip off merchant myself, I do try to get pretty close to the Hooky sound, but going as far as string gauge is probably a bit much, mind you i have got my eye an a clone theory at the mo, and that'll be a lot dearer than strings!

I've been playing with "guitar strings with delusions" for about 15 years, but they do suck balls when playing high up, they just lack the bottom end. Also, I figure playing with battleship anchor chains for a while will improve my technique and when I go back to by lights, I'll be a better player. It'll turbocharge my ailing callouses too.

The thing about lights is that you can funk the strings like a guitar.
