I was toying with the idea of putting 'the inner six', but Republic has its moments. This unfortunately is the legacy of a band that have been at each others throats for the last twenty years. If you chuck in the two JD albums, and all the singles, it really is a fine body of material, and after 30 years they still can sound at times relevant today. Not many outfits with that sort of longevity i can think of. Perhaps Kraftwerk? (again a story of inter-band disputes and long periods of inactivity).
'TDF Soundtracks' is actually favourite and was worth the wait.
Wonder if we'll be able to say that about N.O?

I'll disagree on that one. It wasn't worth waiting 17 years for. In case you hadnt heard NO are split again.
Oh, I dunno, Barney did the eponymous Electronic album too ...
... which was better than at least 4 Norder albums, IMO, maybe more?

Yup.. didnt even think about the side-projects. Spose that bumps it up to 17ish albums.
If you look at Top 100 singles with JD and side projects included, it must be well over 40. Its hardly Beatles/Elvis/Cliff, but its mightily impressive. Certainly beats Kraftwerk. Ironically the last ten years since NO reformed have been the quietest.

you have to look at it with joy division and the singles released in the seasons. and then there's the touring history. that's a lot of work.
They've got a better catalogue than say The Clash, who went totally overboard in releasing a lot of material within a short time frame. New Order went for quality and longevity, and faultered only when other things interfered with the creative process.

If you count up all the compilations, side projects, boxsets etc they've actually had fuckin loads out...

That's 13 studio albums in 26 years. Which other musicians are there out there who could match that combination of output and quality? . Even bands who've been going 5 years struggle to put out an album every two years.
Hooky and Steve/Gillian's output is very similar.
When you add in production work, collaborations with other artists, not to mention Hooky's recent excursion into DJing and their involvement with the management of The Hacienda, they've worked as hard as most.
I'm shocked anyone gave this thread serious attention.

Get ready was a strong comeback, a very good album. They should go back on that "track". Here in sweden it really gave them a lift up.

My original comment was lamenting the fact that if they've truly split then N.O, not their side projects, have left us with 8 albums, some better than others.
I had just got in from the pub!!! I'll get me coat....! 
But we have soooomany versions of Blue Monday, that obviously makes up for the lack of album releases

Well, here's the breakdown:
1979 to 1989 - 7 studio albums (2 JD, 5 NO)
1990 to 2001 - 10 studio albums (2 NO, 8 "side projects")
2005 - 1 crappy NO album

You're discounting the numerous singles that were not on albums prior to 1993. The B-sides were often better than other bands' A-sides, and most other bands include their singles on their albums. What you've actually gotten in 30 years is:
10 studio LPs: Unknown Pleasures, Closer, Movement, PC&L, Lowlife, Brotherhood, Technique, Republic, Get Ready, WFTSC
19 non-album singles: Transmission, Atmosphere/Dead Souls, LWTUA, Komakino, Ceremony, Procession, Everything's Gone Green, Temptation, Blue Monday, Confusion, Thieves Like Us, Murder, Shellshock, State Of The Nation, True Faith, TBTHOG, World In Motion, Video 5 8 6, Here To Stay
3 first-time compilations of non-album tracks: Still, NO's Substance, JD's Substance
5 live albums: Peel Sessions, BBC Radio 1, Preston, Les Bains Douches, In Session
That's not including any singles that were on albums, rereleased singles, repackaged/remix compilations, or any of the side projects.
So, 37 original/first-time releases over 30 years = 1.2333 new offerings every year. That's quite a lot for any band (except The Fall).
