ok--can anyone provide information about the why and lore of attaching stuffed animals to the front of one's truck, as seen in the video for 60MPH. I found one NYTimes article, but it wasn't terribly helpful. Thanks.

it's not really anything to do with new order - they were acknowledging the practise in the video, but good luck with your quest.

You normally see them on dustbin lorries. Probably ones the bin men find on their rounds.
Kind of a mascot, kind of a joke - like they hit a bear as they were speeding along.

Think it originated in the original hill-town of Burnley in the 1980's when the horse-drawn carriage was replaced with the car. The locals would speed around in their Ford Escort Mexico copies playing the just released at the local cinema film Deathrace 2000 game. Whereupon any poor unfortunate caught in their path would end up smeared in the front grill.
Either that or it was invented by the binmen. 
You've got it all wrong.
It's the bears that stick an Escort Mexico on their arses and run around town making a noise like an angry wasp in a wet bottle.
Their mates all think it's hilarious

I know it doesn't have anything to do with NO, but I thought the intersection of interests may reside here and be helpful.
I am also aware of the plushy/furry subculture, and am not into it.
