Well, I certtainly don't agree with the review.....but I do agree with this:

"2) We would have rather seen a movie about Bernard Sumner, who is at least twice as fascinating and about twenty times more talented than Curtis. Seriously, why do we need another iteration of the TRAGIC YOUNG ROCK STAR story when we could instead explore the inner workings of a dorky weirdo like Sumner? Or hell, what about Peter Hook? That guy is more interesting too."

I think that Bernard Sumner is more interestic than Ian Curtis in every way. Yes, Ian was a better lyricist...a poet in fact, but Bernard is a brilliant song writer and his acheivements and New Orders in general have been far greater than anything Joy Division did. Joy Division were awesome...but not too groundbreaking....New Order were awesome AND totally groundreaking in every way.

Ill take The Perfect Kiss and True Faith over any JD sogn any day.

I am just sick of reading about Ians depression when the music made my New Order is just more interesting.

I just bought the new copyu of Mojo..they have yet ANOTHER feature on Ian. Jesus.

Its like how music mags and journalist always talk about John Lydon being in the Sex Pistols.....but Public Image Limited were far more groundbreaking and important than the Pistols ever were.

I agree with that review actually.Well, apart from LWTUA being the only great song they did.They did do quite a few more.But i agree with the film being an "embarassing mess of cliches and on the nose musical cues" That's the problem i had with the final scenes.A film about "dorky weirdo" Barney or Tony Wilson would have been better

Another self-important stockpile of web detritus, it seems.

A shallow, inconsequential review that utterly misses the point. Hell, the writer's pining for a freaking B-52s movie. Says it all.

I caught the film for a second time last night, followed by a really engaging Q&A session with Anton Corbijn. It's by no means a perfect film but I'd recommend a more balanced overview of credible reviews here:

Just a note.......what a GREAT song DRIVE IN SATURDAY is. The soundtrack is rather good also for EVIDENTLY CHICKENTOWN.

Exactly - not sure how Barney's a "dorky weirdo"??

1. Despite co-writing exactly one great song ("Love Will Tear Us Apart"), being an epileptic, getting married at a very young age, and committing suicide at 23, Ian Curtis was a dreadfully dull human being. Maybe that's an overstatement, but there's certainly not enough in his brief life to support the plot of a feature-length film.

And yet reviewing this film is probably the most exciting thing to be accomplished by this blogger.
