Ian Brown joins Freebass supergroup in the studio 1 hour ago

In an interview about the lack of progress on a proposed slate of New Order reissues, Peter Hook has hinted that his supergroup Freebass will be touring this summer

As previously reported, the group is made up of Hook, the Stone Roses/Primal Scream legend Mani, and Smiths' vet Andy Rourke.

If that sounds a little bass-heavy, rest assured that collaborators will be adding plenty of top end: in addition to previously-rumored sessions with Liam Gallagher and Tim Burgess, the band is also working with Ian Brown and Howard Marx.

A schedule for the 2008 European summer festivals is being drawn up, according to Billboard.

"It's really coming on and we're very, very pleased," Hook is quoted as saying of the group. "I feel very positive about Freebass right now."

Specific dates for Freebass have yet to be determined.

Be alright for a bit of a social, I s'pose?

Can't say I'm overly excited though. Especially considering it's only the 'festival circuit' too.

Will they just use lots of the vocals on tape, or would Hooky try and sing other people's parts? Seeing UNKLE tonight and seems their live shows this week have included Ian Brown, Thom Yorke and Ian Astbury.

Could end up being like Hooky & The Boys from the Mrs Merton show, with some taped vocals!

What's the deal with said "reissues", though? Will they be like the JD ones with a load of sleevenotes? Has this been mentioned on here before???

EDIT: Sorry, just seen t'other thread. What a cunt, eh?

European tour, eh? I hope they come to America. Now, that I'm 21, I hope to see Hooky in one of his DJ Tours, too. :thumb:

You just had to come to Canada Cozzie... you could have seen him in any bar for the last year years (well, 5 probably, but that's something else)

Perhaps he could release a 'Hooky & The Boys' CD with some of the hilarious banter between the tracks. Who were 'the boys' anyway, any of the Factory lot?

There's already such a CD out there - a best of the Mrs Merton show... Although, there isn't that much banter on it, just the songs before the interviews...

aaah steamy nights in with Hooky. great days them. he used to attend our Sauna. years ago. got free membership. but we didn't mind. he'd sometimes turn up with an acoustic guitar, and play with me and the boys. wow, i'll never forget them days. i wonder if he's still got his membership.
