I think this idea should make it to the New Order management (I hope some people that CAN actually contact them will transmit the idea), because it's not the new media directors at the labels that will help doing this.

Instead of doing a box set, New Order should re-release each and every single they released on single CDs (not originally my idea, but I stick with it now) with all the remixes and tracks associated to that particular single, just like Depeche Mode did, hoping they will be remasterd and everything, with the original artwork. A complementary "rare tracks" bonus CD would be a great addon if you buy the WHOLE set, as a DVD compilation of all the videos and some live performances available on the "Factory" tapes.

So, the idea would be, let's see: (They should actually go back to Warsaw to do this, but I'll start with New Order)

A minor quibble, I know, but the Making Out Mix of Vanishing Point was on the regular Round And Round CD single, and isn't a "rarity" as such.

Yeah - that's it Spotnick - the DEFINITIVE singles collection, in a couple of box sets..... furthermore, I put this very same suggestion across a few months ago on another old thread, so it's good to see others agree with my assertion that all the old Factory stuff should be reissued as CD equivalents of the 12" singles - albeit combined wherever possible (i.e. the two 12" formats that were issued later on one disc).

The only difference is that I didn't make an allowance for any of the post-1990 stuff (Republic / Best Of through to Get Ready), so my idea was basically a nifty Factory Completist's package (with miniaturised card inner/outer sleeves rather than crummy plastic CD jewel cases like now) more than anything! ;)

(Shite - I really shouldn't be doing this on my lunchbreak at work you know!!)

Ok Nic, I e-mailed your request to somebody who has New Orders management's e-mail and fax, and Barney's E-mail address and Hooky's fax! So we will see if it will do anything?

You have a good idea. I still like the box set better, if they do it right. but I will take what I could get. But I think they are going to put a live CD on their box set. They just dont know if it's going to be a whole concert or clips from different shows.

One question: Vicious Circle (both mixes!) -Where is the other mix?

I really like these ideas:

I've got David Sultans email addy too and even emailing him with those suggestions will have little effect - the idea is totally commercially unviable. Remember that LONDON hold the purse strings where this "set" is concerned. New Order can suggest what they would like to see but the buck stops at the record company.

Whatever appears will be more like the "Heart & Soul" boxed set.

I'd be extremely wary of the very notion of an "Unplugged" album as that will then suggest New Order are finally ready and willing to join the superannuated Rock Aristocracy league by succumbing to such drastic measures.... I mean, think of all the bands who have done one: Paul Weller, The Cure, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Oasis... (Nirvana even went and did one!!) .....god the thought sends a shudder down my spine even as I type! :nonono:

I guess so.. they did re-release BLT on CD a few years ago, I still wonder why they stopped there.

Like I said, I think that's what they should do, not what could be done.. remember also the Depeche Mode Box Set (3 boxes if I remember right).. it's also something to consider I guess...

If it's like Heart & Soul, then this would be, 7", 12" versions and demos.. no remixes.. (well, is there any remix of Joy Division except the 1995 remix by Arthur Baker anyways?)

Re-releasing each single might not be a good commercial thing, but I'm sure everyone would buy at least all singles that weren't release on CD (so up to Shellshock)
