What was the most "unfavorable" comment you've received liking New Order and how did you react to it?

The first time I was introduced to my girlfriend's best mate, it was the night before the Summer Pops in '06. She said something along the lines of "New Order? Aren't they all mullets and spandex"? Suppose in fairness, she could have seen the TBTHOG video, who knows?

As with the earlier comment, whenever someone compares New Order to Depeche mode and assume I would prefer the latter. Depeche Mode has one good song, Enjoy The Silence, whereas New Order has only one unlistenable song, Liar. And to be honest, I'm even warming up to THAT one!

Yes this has been a constant over the years for me.People always expect me to prefer Depeche Mode for some unfathomable reason

I remember once in middle school being asked to change out of my NO shirt with 'True Faith' written on the back because some teacher took it to mean Very Bad Things. Even after legitimizing the band with a library book on Synthesizer bands, they still said it "offended" unnamed parties.

Most unfavorable? My coworker said "Yaz who?" when i said I was going to the Yaz reunion show this summer, so I rattled off a few bands I liked back when, but when she didn't know New Order, I was like "haven't you even heard of Bizarre Love Triangle?" she forwarded me this link -

Hardly a comment, but I'm sick of my friends comparing the entire New Order discography to JDs Substance and saying SUbstance is better.

They're two different bands for christs sake! It's not like they were going at the same time, or could have continued as Joy Divsion...It annoys me, okay?

Poor kid... growing up I hope her classmates do not find this abomination on the Web, the humilation. She prolly will turn into a suicidal goth teenager who listens to The Cure now.

Oh thats rather un fair, we all know morrisey is ten times more depressed then Robert. She'll listen to his records and perhaps conjure up some voodoo with that Duran Duran wedding album. That or, she'll listen to Linkin Park.

i'm currently corrupting two graduates who have the misfortune to sit next to me at work for their current rotation. they can now identify regret, temptation and blt. they love the order. well the padre keeps telling me to turn it down.

They don't come up in conversation that often for me, to be honest.

Having said that I remember this lad I know, who'd seen me at the Newcastle gig in 06, approaching me a few days later for a general whinge about how shite and embarrassing he thought they were.

I usually get the standard "WHO???" when asked who my favorite group is. Then of course I have to list some of their hits that I think will jog the person's memory, and it never does. No one really knows any of the music I listen to here in suburban hell. Until he met me, my husband never knew who they were either. I think sometimes he wishes he never learned who they were, to be honest. lol

Until I brought the c.d. player/iPod to work, nobody at my job heard of New Order. One coworker said, when I mentioned "Blue Monday," "Hey, that's that song Orgy did, right?" And another went so far as to say, "Oh, do they sound anything like that crappy new wave from the 80's? It took a lot for me not to jam one of my markers down that moron's throat [hey--I grew up on 80's underground new wave, I took what he said as an insult!!].

Now even my STORE MANAGER bops his head along to :egg:.

Ah, the power of perseverence.

At a party last New Year and was talking to my mate's teenage daughter as she went through his CDs. I asked her, "Has your Dad got any New Order?" To which, she replied, "Who?"

Youngest are the High-Schoolers [16-17 years at the earliest], most are in their 30's-40's, our oldest employee is, I think, 60-some-odd.

It's a shame. Some of said High-Schoolers think that old-school's Busta Rhymes, Janet Jackson, Eminem, and basically anything they remember listening to in school. I should give them proper musical education.
