Hooky sings on every NO song?

I was thinking the other day, were Hookys vocals under used on NO songs?

I mean he sung lead vocals on 2 tracks from Movement. Im sure he sung backing on Confusion but I couldnt name you any other tracks he's sung on (although Im sure a few of you can!). He sung considerably on the Monaco debut (not heard follow up album).

Maybe his voice is an aquired taste and more suited to a band like Nickleback. Maybe fans prefere his style to Barneys or vice versa. Either way I thought it might be interesting to find out what folks thought.

I firmly believe Gillian was under used as a vocalist (but thats another arguement).

this was a question asked of the order back in 84/85 ,some journo said that the joint vocals were "interesting" why did they get dropped?, indeed why mr sumner!

i think that once they decided on the new order sound that was it for hookys vocal talents which is a shame as his d.n.e vocal is lovely. barney also vetoed "girls "singing on order records , though this did get pushed back post 93 so hope for bass king yet, would be more than interesting to hear bass king sing a verse of thieves like us though.

I presume, like barney he couldn't play and sing too well at the same time, and as gillian also played guitar and barneys guitar just backed up bits, he was chosen as singer, I prefer barneys singing to hookys any, also I doubt hooky could have managed to play bass, swing it round his ankles and sing!!

why didn't hooky do more DJing before order gigs?

He also sung backing vocals on True Faith - my favourite song - but I don't thing that he should sung more songs ....

Interestingly Johnny Marr reckons Barney is a very good guitar player technically and is criminally underrated

The way I heard it, Hooky cannae sing and play too well, and prefers to play. No biggie like.

Hooky can't sing and play at the same time, Steve had the best voice but a drummer can't really be a frontman, so that leaves Barney, who can't really play and sing very well either, but that's what Gillian/Phil's for.

They should've used Gillian's voice more.

Bernard took over the job of writing lyrics, I guess Hooky was not so inspired to write that much... so it seems natural.

It might have been good if Hooky had a song every album or so, or maybe a B-side... like John Entwisle or George Harrison

Was it really Sumner who vetoed "girls" singing? Are there articles about the subject or something for me to learn more about the topic? I can't stand the female backing vocals; they ruin the songs for me. Sometime, I just don't understand Barney.
