Watched the Pumped Full Of Drugs video the other day, first time in years & wondered if anyone knows why they play some songs off Brotherhood which was released in '86 when the gig was in '85 when Low Life was out. Did they record the 2 albums around the same time or something?

Just the way/time the songs were written/evolved... If you look at the Music section of the site, you can see when each song was debuted live and get an idea of when everything was written/in progress... A lot of the LL tracks first appeared 83/84, some of the Brotherhood ones in 85, others not until 86... I suppose the band were more constantly creative then, not just writing for an album, then fcuking off for years, but recording stuff that they'd been working on for a while, but keeping other newer ideas until they'd developed more in a live setting...

I can only remember 'As it is, and when it was' off Brotherhood on PFD. The story has been written on here before, but it was written before Lowlife and didnt make it onto the album, if i recall because they weren't happy with the final cut. If Tim was about he'd fill us in.

New Order used to regularly play live early versions of songs before they were recorded and released, often as works in progress. The video of the concert from 1981 has an early version of "Temptation" for example.
New Order used to be cool.
They always used to throw new songs into the set before they were recorded up until 1988. It was their way of working them out and refining them in a live setting. As It Is When It Was was very new when they recorded PFD, that was only the third performance of it I think. It wasn't written in time for inclusion on Low Life, it wasn't written until mid-April 85, by which time Low Life was mastered. A pity, as it might have been better on there than on Brotherhood.
Think whoever said it was for LL got it mixed up with Let's Go, which was dropped from lowlife in favuour of that stupid radiotard friendly version of TPK.
Ahhhh New Order, a band who can write their own tunes without a 48track studio and 4 producers, who'd have thunk such a thing were possible.
they played AIWWIW on that tour because they were about to go into a Japanese studio whilst there and record demos of it.

Both We All Stand and Colony were debuted on the day they were written, if we're to believe Mark Johnson's book.

anyone have these demos? AIWWIA might be my favorite song and i had no idea there were demos of it (well i guess there are demos of everyting?)
There's two demos if memory serves me correctly, one with the standard live opening of just the bass, and one with some guitar first that is a bit nearer to the finally released version. Oops sorry, I'm not really here!
