Well, that's the list of best sellers from March 1983... Ironically, BM is 40th, despite eventually snatching the title of best selling 12" of all time.
Blue Monday would for most of us -ahem- obviously be 1st choice... What would be your 2nd choice?

I voted for Miss Annie and her strange pet Dave. It's the only song up there I can still hear without turning a funny colour.
Besides Blue Monday, (1st best song), I'd say maybe Sweet Dreams by Eurythmics. But I have to admit, while I love many songs from the 1980s, there are quite a few crap songs on that list.

Sweet Dreams for me too. Still feel nostalgic about lots of 80s New Wave & pop, but I must say Blue Monday holds up better than almost anything else on this list.
Out of loyalty I will vote for Madness, even tho the song isnt among their best. A truly credible pop act if ever there was one.

I say Toto too. They were studio muscicians who finally hit it big, so it's only fitting they still had to play second fiddle to someone else in March 1983

I saw them at the Warehouse in Leeds around that time and they were pretty good.
rip it up reminds me of pie and chips as it was always on in the chippy when i was queuing up, strange that come to think of it. Edwyn collins has done some decent stuff since like a girl like you and all the franz ferdinand stuff (hehe)
Come on, I was 9 years old... beside Billie Jean, I didn't know much of these songs!
I remember Africa, Is There Something I should know and Total Eclipse of the Heart... but that was a few years later mostly... and obviously Sweet Dreams... but Annie Lennox kind of scared me then
