I was listening to the full version of Here To Stay in my car today...

I cannot help but wonder..

Here to Stay is, in my opinion, one of New Order's best songs. Its an fantastic dance track, has a beautiful synth melody, lots of cool electronics, tasteful guitar from Barney and a pretty lead bass line from Hooky, great vocals from Barney and lyrics that sort of make sense.

Its a great song with a lot of energy, and it seems to be pretty popular with New Order fans. I remember hearing it played in clubs when 24HPP came out.

So how come New Order never played this awesome song live?

Also....when exactly was this song recorded? During the Get ready sessions? Or After? Did Gillian play on it?

As far as I know, it was recorded in the initial stages of the Get Ready sessions, but if anyone knows different, please correct me. I'm pretty sure Gillian had something to do with it.

At the time, it was a grossly underrated NO tune and was glossed over by just about everybody. I thought it was a fitting 'statement' from New Order at the time after the relative silence since Republic.

I agree! The lyrics seem to reflect a new found comfort with the past (I think the "blue eyed boy" is either Ian or young Bernard himself) as well as coming to terms with age.

It really is an awesome song....very energetic and uplifting. I almost wish they had held it back for WFTSC....it would have been an amazing first single!

They did it "live" on Top Of The Pops when the single originally came out but that was really just miming to a backing track. I remember taping it at the time and witnessing Barney's usual dad dancing with the obligatory cringe.

Other than that, the song was recorded for Get Ready but the band felt it didn't really fit in with the overall sound of that record (I.e. Rawk) and so kept it back. 24HPP was looming on the horizon by that time so they finished mixing it - some might say overmixing - and gave it to the soundtrack. A premix version from the Get Ready sessions exists on some early promo CDrs and is about 6 minutes long.

It's a decent song but doesn't set my world on fire as much as some. I've noticed the yanks on here seem to gush about it far more than the brits for some reason. While I like my fair share of electronic music I'd rather listen to Crystal or even Sabotage over HTS most of the time.

For a collaboration between such 'massive' legends of the dance music world it fell a little flat for me personally but these types of singles often do. I still give the Felix Da Housecat Glitz Mix and Extended Instrumental a spin sometimes though, both decent efforts.

I remember quite a while ago, there was footage of New Order performing Here to Stay on TOTP (mimed, though) uploaded on YouTube, although it's now gone.

I have to agree, it is one of my faves, on a previous post that had the question which one song would you play to someone who has never heard new order to sum them up (or something like that) I suggested HTS, as you said, it has all the electronics, the guitar the bass good vocal melody, everything.

I think it would be interesting to know which parts chemical brothers did, or did they just produce it, i think all parts could easily have been new order, so it's hard to see what their input was.

It's up there with true faith, regret, crystal and temptation

Guilty as charged. I suppose that Americans appreciate the dance side of New Order more then the Brits?

I think Republic is a very good, if flawed (production wise) album. Much better than the "rawk" of Get Ready....though Crystal is one of the best NO songs ever.

Low-Life
Republic

HTS was a reasonable NO outing but the Chemicals got the far better collaboration with Out of Control. Absolute stormer.

My American work colleague has just brought in two huge trays of Krispy Kreme doughnuts for the team this morning. I never knew you could have so many choices of doughnut.

Americans are good for some things!

I'm gonna sit with my feet up on my desk all morning sipping cawfee and pretending I'm an NYDP Cop. Code four, good buddy.

"Out of Control" absolutely pisses over "Here To Stay" from a great height. There's even that bit around the 4m45sec mark where the Chems try to out-Hooky the real Hooky with a bit of melodic bass ... funnily enough, at the exact same point the real Hooky always fades that track out when he plays it in his DJ set! :nod: :lol:

Now, can we get back to talking about food?!

I'm not American (not that it f**king matters anyway) and I think that Here to Stay is one of the best songs New Order have recorded in years. I also massively favour their dance material (other than the earlier Movement days) and will argue that Republic is one of their finer albums.

It's a lovely song, really nice.

but has no impact in new orders development or style.

Maybe its ironic or iconic (god thats cheesey), for Americans.
