The look I got from the cashiers at FYE purchasing The singles, in a Depeche Mode "Master and Servant" t shirt. Priceless, oh and the first time I heard behind closed doors, that brought me almost to tears.

the first time i saw NO live, at red rocks amphitheatre in colorado in 1989.

the mountains to one side of me and the city of denver's lights below me on the other side. the red sun setting over the mountains. absolutely beautiful; with amazing music, to boot.

The first time i became aware of them was watching them do Blue Monday on TOTP March 1983.Thought they fucking awful!

Later that year i was playing P,C&L non stop though.Funny how things change eh...

Me and my mate were refused entry to what should have been very our first New Order gig at Birmingham Powerhouse, 1984 for being under 18

I 'heard' songs off Low Life in a dream a few months before it came out.Never was sure if the music turned out to be what i had dreamt however

Sheffield Roxy 87 is possibly my all time favourite NO gig i've attended.

Fave memory of NO? Toss up between first time I saw them at HACIENDA 1985,or FESTIVAL OF THE TENTH SUMMER. Then again LIVERPOOL 2006 was just a perfect day.Not just because of meeting a legion of NOOLERS before and after the gig in to the early hours,but YOUR SILENT FACE never sounded better,and HOOKY was a star that night. "I'm talking to you cunts in the yellow!"

first time i heard The Village

listening to Fine Time 12" vinyl very very loudly the day it was available, 679 times in a row in a small room on a book of LSD with a friend of a friend in some boston dorm room.

late night college radio at age 15, late at night, soft glow of the stereo across the room, as Thieves Like Us spins and I am hooked and have no clue who even wrote the song until the DJ mentions it much later.

we didn't have the internet back then. every single piece of vinyl was a trip to Boston or NYC with a damned good story.

New Order oh what memories. in 1987 I and a friend had our first trip away from home without adult supervision to the big smoke of Sydney........ . Front row in front of Hookey close enough to get a hit on the head with the bass if he so wished.

Okay, Chris, I drove straight overnight after getting off work on a Monday afternoon , over 13 hours in all, to the Bay Area in 1985 for the NO gig at Oakland on a Tuesday evening. Driving into the Bay Area just as dawn was beginning to break but the city lights were still shining brightly, a radio DJ from a local announced that New Order were playing in town that night and then played EGG; a chill went down my spine and the toil of going on all through the night was completely forgotten.

Crap audience, but hey, I love the speeded up version of Ceremony that night cause Barney was a little bit pissed off, plus we got Sister Ray as an undeserved encore.

Also heard that an old friend was living down in the area somewhere working at a Burger King, so I went up to that city on the way back, and by God's luck, he was working in the drive thru that night. Imagine his surprise when I pulled up to the window, and we had a great time catching up that night and the next day.

Sadly he passed away in a car accident a couple of months later, but reconnecting with him that last time was a great, great pleasure..........all because of New Order.

my favorite new order memory is being 11 years old and hearing bizarre love triangle on the radio and facing the wall dancing to it.1992...

I won't cry the about gigs..... but I've gone through 2 sets of Substance tapes from listening to it so much. My first set I stole from my older sister's room. Though she knew I had it, I never really asked and kept it.

In high school I was running track and cross country. As with any serious athlete, everyone has thier 'good luck' items. Mine was HAVING to listen to Substance on the drive down to the meet. Did that for every meet for 6 years (also when I ran in college). One meet, a fairly serious one, as colleges would be eyeing you for possibe scholorships, I ran out the door, but forgot my Substance in the stereo. On the long 2 hour bus drive down, i about freaked not having it. Fortunately at one of the stops I jumped off the bus and calld my mom. She graciously brought the tape with her when she drove up to watch the meet. When I got it, I only had time to listen to four songs, but it was enough for me to go off and win the meet. Thanks Mom!

I think that was my favourite ever gig for those reasons. The fury on Hooky's face was something never to forget and his 'Come on the Vikings' shout (which I freely admit I may have misheard) put the lid on the night for me. A shit night for so many reasons, but memorable nontheless.

Some of the stories I heard over the next few days boggled the mind.

Back in grade, what, eight maybe, I was talking on MSN to this girl from Alberta, who tells me that they're playing New Order on Muchmusic. So I ran across the house and sure enough, it was the first airing of Crystal. T'was truely a moment.

Of course, hearing True Faith for the first time was really it. I never really cared about bands, or music for that matter, until I heard that song.

For this reason and this reason alone, Major wins my nomination for "NOOL Member of the year" for 2008.

As for good memories of New Order. Erm... well, Brixton 05 was good. Glastonbury was a laugh, and erm... thats about it.

They've just been surpassed by so many others...

meeting them at sobell with autographs unplanned, we'd gone in the afternoon and were on way home when they rolled up in the granada. regret not getting rob's but at least spoke to them, having seen i think the manchester gig a few days before. this was staples corner m1 m6 hitchhiking for NO

dashing up to the bull c82? (oh christ is it/was it called that?) at walkden cos a friend had called to say hooky was having a pint there. star gazed from the bar...

see what happens? just saw a picture of gillian at womad 85. by the sea, moonlit, a touch chilly i remember, NO coming on late (oh really?) around midnight, see your breath no dry ice and ELEGIA to start.. that's atmosphere

Being dragged out to the Trafford Centre by then girlfriend in 1999(or was 98?) just after MEN Arena gig and bumping into Barney and his girlfriend in Baby Gap.

He looked suitably pissed off, the way blokes look when they're dragged out shopping by the missus, so caught a quick chat with him outside. He said they were back in the studio recording and hoped to have some stuff out 'soon'. Two years later and GR appeared.

Why memorable? Because it was a bizarre moment in my life that I was completely unprepared for, and it was probably the last time I remember being as giddy as a little kid. (No, actually the last time was after ManU won the European Cup in 1999.)
