"Confusion" vs "People Are People"

Now I don't know if any of you seasoned NO watchers are also Depeche Mode followers (well I'm not to be honest), but I actually recently heard this song - "People Are People" - playing on local radio and it actually struck me how similar the whole chord structure is to New Order's "Confusion" (which came out a year earlier)!

Seriously, it's uncanny - listen to the main underlying riff on both, and YOU tell me they weren't separated at birth! In fact you can even sing the chorus of either song over the top of the other!! To further confirm that I alone ain't the only one who noticed this - there was even an ancient interview with Hooky wherein he actually mentions his mother even told him that Depeche had ripped off the Order with this song..... keen-eared or what??!

So now you know that it's not just The Cure who rip our heroes off ..... Who else has noticed this alarming similarity between the two songs?

Where the hell did you hear that bunch of crap? lol. DM ripping off New Order? These are two different kind of bands. DM were synthpop pop, ALL ELECTRONIC. New Order had guitars and Hooky. I doubt DM or NO even knew each other until they met at some gig, I forgot. Alan Wilder said Bernard was a nice guy but wouldn't work with him. But Alan would surely like to work with Johnny Marr. (who wouldnt)

Admit it though, it does bloody well sound very similar - Depeche friggin Mode ripping off Confusion for their own lyrically-clodhopping ode to banishing racial intolerance and bigotry....! Well I never! Funny though, I've never seen any footie fans singing that one on the terraces...!! And I cannot even understand why, after all this time, they never even did a sequel entiled "You're Going Home In A Fooking Ambulance....Moyte!" :lol: :lol:
