I don't really believe that NO split up because Barney isn't keen on touring (they could just have a break) or that they are 'too old' (they are all still active musicians) or that the WFTSC sales weren't so great (they could increase income by doing digital only sales and bypass the record company)...

So what's the real reason?

Peter and Barney seemed to look like they got on well on stage. Yet, I believe off stage they fought quite often.

I really think it had less to do with fighting (I don't think they talked enough to actually have a fight, lol) and more to do with the fact that Hooky wanted to work on a new album in time to do the festivals and stuff and Bernard was busy with other side projects like the single with Blank & Jones and his work with Alex James. I think Hooky was tired of being on the sidelines waiting for Barney to be ready to get down to business. JMO

You dont want to believe it, so therefore its not true? I( dont want to believe that that Steve McClaren was ever the England manager, but lifes a shithouse.

At this point, I don't even care about why this whole thing happened. As long as they're alive and still willing to do something musicially (in any form----doesn't need to be New Order, really---it could be individual projects) I'm satisfied.

In all fairness, now the dust has settled over the split i think i'd rather have the 2 new albums by the "new" projects than another New Order album.

The debut Electronic/Monaco albums were way better than Republic, Get Ready or Waiting for the sirens' Call. I think im slowly starting to realise that, i'd still love New Order if they'd never returned after Technique, as opposed to liking them now.

Another New Order album would yield maybe 3 great tracks and that'd be it. Most on here only want the live side which they probably wouldn't do for another album anyway.

I used to have a signature that said something like "If New Order started at Republic, we'd think them shite" and i still belive that.

Roll on the new other stuff.

You know, you are so right. I think in their hearts everyone mourning the band's demise is just hoping that a new album would somehow transcend the last few mediocre ones, but how likely is that? super unlikely, that's how. Bring on the new projects.

they are old and the best years are long behind them. their new projects will probably be minor league at best.

you can always enjoy the prime years, just wish Bernard would respect their past.

Wasn't it the other way round? In the post-WFTSC interviews (including the NOOL one) Hooky was always quoted as saying that Barney wanted to finish off the new songs and he wanted to tour. No prizes for guessing who won that particular debate...

I don't know....I always got the impression from Hooky's "work ethic" comment that Barney was in no rush to do NO related work and Hooky wanted things stepped up to do the festivals and tour. Just my interpretation of what his comments were after he left the band.

I say it was the finsbury park show that caused this all. Just watching the DVD, they were not exactly happy souls.

Totally disagree, good sir.

I thought Waiting For The Sirens Call was an excellent New Order album, and it is my second favorite New Order album behind Technique, and its the New Order album that I play the most as a whole album, from start to finish. I think that WFTSC is better than Brotherhood, Get Ready, Movement, and yes its Blasphemy to say it, but I like WFTSC more than PCL. As much as I love Electronics debut, I still think WFTSC is better.

I also thought Get Ready was pretty good....and I think the Republic is sorely underrated. Its got Barney's best sets of lyrics and some really beautiful songs.....it is merely marred by too slick production and Hooky being too low in the mix.

I know a lot of people, including myself, who were really looking forward to New Order's next album after WFTSC. Given that it was supposed to contain the songs that were "too New Order sounding" for WFTSC, it could have been a pretty awesome album. Given that they worked with Brian Higgins on those songs, it probably would have been more electronic and dancey than WFTSC.

Just my two cents! :)

I love WFTSC and was looking forward to the next album . When Sirens was released, the band talked a lot about five or so tracks that were left and worthy of a release, and that they would be getting in the studio to record others asap. For some reason this did not materialise and the split occured.

However, I would say that Mac and Will Sargeant from Echo and the Bunnymen don't get on, but they still manage to record and peform live together..... but I suppose that is because BOTH of them still want it.

At the end of the day I say thanks to NO for all the good times.........

  1. Because they have enough money till the next album :evil4:

  2. Bernard is in a spar in Ibiza getting fit at this moment!
