Perhaps it must be different over the pond but it is only since I started visiting this site that I have seen New Order being lumped in with the Cure, Depeche Mode and the Pet Shop Boys. And now even Ultravox...god forbid.I'm sure all these other bands have had their moments but certainly in the UK New Order have absolutely nothing in common with these types of bands.
I dunno, we civilise these colonies, bring 'em kulture and sophistication, and they come back to haunt us with their Depeche Modes and their Pet Shop Boys. Ugh. Heathens.
Mind, dunno if I've ever told you this story (I must have, surely, considering your allegiances) but me and some Luton mates were having some 'friendly banter' with a few Zulus outside a niteclub in Torquay in maybe 84, or 85, and 'In-Between Bloody Days' came on and my mate G went 'It's New Order!' so we all disappear inside this club and it takes me about a minute before any of us goes, 'Er, hold on, this is the bloody Cure'. Still, they've got one good song, I s'pose. You can forgive 'em that.
It was getting a bit arsey with the Zulus cos they thought we were West Ham - we were wearing a lot of paisley with diamante broaches at the neck. Perish the thought, but it was fashion then. Your lot were all sporting 'taches, obviously.
Oh, and put your phone lock on - you called me FIVE TIMES from Old Trafford this week. Still, sounded lively at your end!!
