Wouldn't it be just superior if NO got the 'crazy' idea to take one of their finest songs from the past and apply new treatment ... in a similar way to 'Temptation' and 'Confusion' on 'Subbuteo' except this time do it well. (after all, were they not aware of how the original Confusion highlighted the tacky effort on the dire new version?).

In a way they used to treat alternative versions of their own songs to maximise the full capacity of the song 'BLT, TPK' etc. surely they could create an entire album with new sounds, different playing, a new soul to the songs? ... I'm thinking (well, dreaming) ...

  1. 5-8-6
  2. Leave My Pies Alone
  3. Tempting Myself Far Too Much
  4. Everything Just Went Brown
  5. Teeth Paste
  6. BL&Tomato
  7. As Soon as I can Think
  8. My Point Has Vanished
  9. Turn My Feet
  10. Regret I mentioned It
  11. Love Will Tear Our Shoes
  12. Atmospheric Weather Conditions

I'm not talking re-mixes using the same gear with a 4-on-the-floor banging 'choon behind it. I'm suggesting an entirely new method of playing the song but enhancing the original most beautiful flavours.

This would be far better than any Re-cycle package surely? ... or at least a nice topping. Or even, release Re-cycle and release this! ... the possibilties are huge and extremely cumbersome even for the thinnest mammal.

I fear that in view of the fact that the band members are all in their late 90's, if they devoted time and energy to a project like that, they might never get around to recording anything new.

Gosh, I thought of it too! You own me a tread, pal! But seriously I think it's a top idea. I would love to hear new versions (or "reworkings") of, say:

Love vigilantes (the "Truly Country&Western" mix) Procession (the "Procession moves on the shouting is over" mix) Thieves like us (the " I still live my life on pills" mix) Dream attack (the "Ibiza all over again" mix) Paradise (the "sha-la-la-less" mix)

Wouldn't it be great?

Well George I'd be happy for more 'Sha-la-la-la-la's' on any NO songs I am particularly keen at any attempt they make to mimick Motown.

I wasn't aware all of the band members were almost 100, I thought Hook Nose was in his sixties? - The question is, having a back catalogue that is almost flawless (with the minor exceptions included on 'The Republican') could it be that a re-worked classic is worthy of taking the place of an okay new song? ... it's a sacrifice but that never stopped Eltonic John achieve success outside of his undies.

'6Miles to the Gallon' or an outstanding re-worked 'Face-up to it' ... mmmmm ...

Numbers 2 and 12 in your original FORCAST sound splendid. Although in 2 s case surely the HOLLANDS PIE remix or 12s MICHAEL FISH WOT HURRICANE mix should be considered. RM ..i had not realised i am almost 100.

By the way, Hunts, I'm a little surprised you included Turn My Back to the Wall; didn't they just do that?

I removed an in-brackets comment on TMW in the hope someone would comment. Yes, that's right my friend - being the greediest man in the world I immediately placed TMW into the all-time greatest top 20 and thus, it merits inclusion. There are more than 15 ways to skin a rabbit, and I am confident that TMW has great capacity to be hung, drawn and possible quartered.

That's not to say the original isn't perfect ... which it is. (Pumpkin 'n all).

The Republican has potentially good songs in it, but it is spoiled by Mr Hague's production. So, my proposal would be to re-record this album completely and to let the Order produce it themselves. Let's see what would happen then...

Regarding the good back catalogue, the exercise might be interesting as well, but I doubt it will deliver remarkable results. Yet, improvements are always possible: just listen to the magnificent live version of KW1 (or the BBC recording) with the music taking off after the second verse.

Cyclops KW1 with music taking off? ... this is my point. All of the little nuances NO have created by playing the songs often could be made into splendid new versions.

I take your point about Republic, I too would enjoy a re-working and hope they leave off that rap thing.

Just wondering what people have against 60 miles an hour. I think its a really great track and I've noticed that alot of people I know who aren't necessarily New Order fans have commented on how good this song is when I've been playing it.

It isn't an 'outstanding' NO song, and as such, succumbs to the odd joke or three.. It is a credible song though, which is possibly where the problem stems. With NO setting such high standards they really have to produce magic to appease the fans.

You might need to research Spanish humour a little, which cites the common bull as an animal to be scoffed at, or indeed to be scoffed. I realise the initial post wasn't the best joke ever heard but when I was at the translator I panicked.

No, I usually try and guess their star sign. If that fails (current ration approx. less than 1% success) I offer them the opportunity to dine with me and exchange pleasantries on mysterious beasts (like the Crakan from Clash of the Titans or the Beast of Bodmin Moor). That usually does the trick. Incidentally, the Algarve is a very nice place, however the sea temperature when bathing isn't worth boasting about.

Patrick, as you well know I do not consume my animal friends, so accordingly my geography on meat-to-animal is lacking. Like maths, I could never see the point in learning a subject if you are never going to use it.

Here's one for you ... my bird thinks Ian Curtis is 'cool' and that JD material 'kicks arse'. Who am I to complain? - if we're out in the bomber 'Digital', 'Shadowplay' and 'Transmission' are often played at full blast with the bass in the danger zone.

The last time we were out we had a heated discussion over the JD compliation 'Permanent'. The track listing states that track 1 is the original LWTUA and that the last track (14) is LWTUA 'permanent mix'. Well then, they are the wrong way 'round. Try telling that to my bird! ... But bird, the drums are new sounding, there's a backing vocal on the chorus, listen to that added synth on the bridge ... nop!, that's definitely the original mix.

Repeat, until fade.

It was the last great 'stop-motion' epic. Movies seemed to then progress to computer world which sometimes looked worse, except Tron, which was ace but had a baffling storyline.

Personally, nothing can top the Sinbad films, especially his duel with the various skeletons. Ray Harryhausan was and still is a genius. He gave a talk about 10 minutes from where I work and I missed it! ... evidently he had one of the skeletons on show!

This is what I can't understand:

  1. Why nobody has made a modern day Sinbad movie where they veer off course and crash land onto an island dominated by mythical beasts. They (obviously) have to walk deep into the island to retrieve some non-specific item in order for them to power the rowing boat back up to rescue the 'gal. Mix that with top-class effects and a great classic score and you've got a billion dollar industry. What about 'Sinbad and the Voyage to Unearth the Magma-monkey'.

  2. Why nobody has made a massive war film with all the current stars in like they used to in the 50's and 60's? ... As they used to, irrespective of their army role, each of the stars characters could shine through to win the day ... Sandra Bullock, for instance, could pilot a spitfire and Nicholas Cage could command a Panzer or possibly a sub. Jim Carrey would make an outstanding foot soldier.

Just a few thoughts anyway.

I will not deny nor admit any involvement with the alternative NO song titles.

Phil Tippet (of Jedi fame) was brought in to begin work on Jurrasic Park, after a few months limbering up with a few minotaurs S Spielburger was shown a digital example of a dinosaur. Unfortunately for Phil (and I would imagine the fabulous Raymond), he was shown the door ... and was provided with a suitable skeleton key.

The Ep. 1 Battle Droids, incidentally, were designed after much analysis on the Sinbad skeletons. George was very impressed and influenced by Ray and his plasticine efforts.

George, if you would like to discuss anything off-topic could you please use the 'General Forum' ... I don't think this is the place to be bringing up dinosaurs, daft names of NO records and indeed any debate on asteroids (a cracking snippit I heard the other day about these mighty space rocks).

Indeed. How very excited I was when I watched this, on bonfire night (Nov. 5th) early eighties with a jacket potato crammed full of vegetarian butter and a pinch of saltitude.

I didn't know what the film was on about then, and after watching it recently I am still non the wiser. All I can decipher is that some gadgie steals a well drawn 3-D bus and sets off to shoot the baddies who drift around blue world in a couple of long boats. The interesting aspect of it all, is that 'Disney' made this film (and Pearl Harbor).

Tron, Sinbad, Clash of the Titans ... such powerful films. What about Flash Gordon (phew what a stinker ... but great!), The Ice Pirates, Trading Places (still, one of the best films in the world ever ... such absolute quality throughout), An American Werewolf in Eggland ... mmmm .... is it hometime yet I wouldn't mind a classic movie night with copious amounts of nibbles.

Personally, the snow plough episode hits the spot. The arcade scenes were too much for me to cope with.

Perhaps 'Trading Plaices with other Fish Lovers' is too real P? ... whereas 'Trot' is a fantastic adventure.

Funniest Simpsons scene was during the episdoe were Bush moved into that big house directly oppposite the Simpson's residence and during an outbreak of hostlities things came to a head in an interconnecting sewer pipe running directly between the two properties, during the ensuing fisti-cuffs Homer ran around the interior circumference of the cylindrical form of the pipe and at the point were gravity overtook the force he'd exerted in propelling himself he landed a perfect belly-flop onto the erstwhile President.

Yes! gerrinthere! practical usage of both physics and mathematics, though probably should have been on one of Tabbsy's topics.

I don't think this is the place to be bringing up dinosaurs, daft names of NO records and indeed any debate on asteroids (a cracking snippit I heard the other day about these mighty space rocks).:hat:

Awright mate! See you at Behind closed doors then (although the daft NO titles do belong here, don't be such a wuss)

The correct sentence would be: "você gosta de biscoitos e queijo ou prefere apenas snacks da "Pringle"? Still I'll give you 14 out of 20 for the effort, lad!

I like the autentico touch with 'lad' at the end, were you taught English by a Scouser, Kidda?

Just to finnish this subject here (Yes Mister Webmaster Sir I'm deeply sorry for starting this mess): Yes I was indeed taught by a Merseyside native. His name's Sir Ian McCulloch and he taught me all I needed to know about your little island. Oh and all about Big Egos & Even Bigger Raincoats too, of course!

Patty hire or watch Trading Places, it is an excellent film. Edward Murphy's most special moment, alongside the legendary Daniel Ackroyd, Denholm Elliot and a girl.

George for someone who chooses to speak Portugese, and who lives near spain, you have certainly picked up English well. I cannot allow you to call me a 'wuss', far from it, I am at least a moderate lunatic.

I thought Frode was a girl?

Jamie Lee Curtis, yes, I couldn't think of her name. Well done. She is a great actress also with an ample.

Soon to be seen in another Halloween movie, I believe, plus all those cell phone ads of course.

For anyone who missed out on the Huntsman, there are many more classic episodes, but I love the bit in the middle when someone asks "Can we get back to the topic"

I tried to stay away from Huntsy and Patsy for quite a while - mainly cos I didnae have a fuckin scooby what they were banging on about. When I did join in - I was often left for days wondering what I was talking about.

CLASSIC THREAD #3

Did we ever establish whether Huntsman and Patrick were indeed the same person?

No but we did establish that both of them did talk equal amounts of nonsense. Patsy has been on recently, but no sign of the mad one. Probably has his hooter stuck in a tube of them new flavoured crispy snacks.
