Wouldn't it be just superior if NO got the 'crazy' idea to take one of their finest songs from the past and apply new treatment ... in a similar way to 'Temptation' and 'Confusion' on 'Subbuteo' except this time do it well. (after all, were they not aware of how the original Confusion highlighted the tacky effort on the dire new version?).

In a way they used to treat alternative versions of their own songs to maximise the full capacity of the song 'BLT, TPK' etc. surely they could create an entire album with new sounds, different playing, a new soul to the songs? ... I'm thinking (well, dreaming) ...

  1. 5-8-6
  2. Leave My Pies Alone
  3. Tempting Myself Far Too Much
  4. Everything Just Went Brown
  5. Teeth Paste
  6. BL&Tomato
  7. As Soon as I can Think
  8. My Point Has Vanished
  9. Turn My Feet
  10. Regret I mentioned It
  11. Love Will Tear Our Shoes
  12. Atmospheric Weather Conditions

I'm not talking re-mixes using the same gear with a 4-on-the-floor banging 'choon behind it. I'm suggesting an entirely new method of playing the song but enhancing the original most beautiful flavours.

This would be far better than any Re-cycle package surely? ... or at least a nice topping. Or even, release Re-cycle and release this! ... the possibilties are huge and extremely cumbersome even for the thinnest mammal.

I fear that in view of the fact that the band members are all in their late 90's, if they devoted time and energy to a project like that, they might never get around to recording anything new.

Gosh, I thought of it too! You own me a tread, pal! But seriously I think it's a top idea. I would love to hear new versions (or "reworkings") of, say:

Love vigilantes (the "Truly Country&Western" mix) Procession (the "Procession moves on the shouting is over" mix) Thieves like us (the " I still live my life on pills" mix) Dream attack (the "Ibiza all over again" mix) Paradise (the "sha-la-la-less" mix)

Wouldn't it be great?

Well George I'd be happy for more 'Sha-la-la-la-la's' on any NO songs I am particularly keen at any attempt they make to mimick Motown.

I wasn't aware all of the band members were almost 100, I thought Hook Nose was in his sixties? - The question is, having a back catalogue that is almost flawless (with the minor exceptions included on 'The Republican') could it be that a re-worked classic is worthy of taking the place of an okay new song? ... it's a sacrifice but that never stopped Eltonic John achieve success outside of his undies.

'6Miles to the Gallon' or an outstanding re-worked 'Face-up to it' ... mmmmm ...

Numbers 2 and 12 in your original FORCAST sound splendid. Although in 2 s case surely the HOLLANDS PIE remix or 12s MICHAEL FISH WOT HURRICANE mix should be considered. RM ..i had not realised i am almost 100.

Jorge I'm gob-smacked we have been in the TEXT ERA for the past 3 or 4 years and your command of the Enlglaterre parlance is far superior to mine and I'm a native.

By the way, Hunts, I'm a little surprised you included Turn My Back to the Wall; didn't they just do that?

I removed an in-brackets comment on TMW in the hope someone would comment. Yes, that's right my friend - being the greediest man in the world I immediately placed TMW into the all-time greatest top 20 and thus, it merits inclusion. There are more than 15 ways to skin a rabbit, and I am confident that TMW has great capacity to be hung, drawn and possible quartered.

That's not to say the original isn't perfect ... which it is. (Pumpkin 'n all).

The Republican has potentially good songs in it, but it is spoiled by Mr Hague's production. So, my proposal would be to re-record this album completely and to let the Order produce it themselves. Let's see what would happen then...

Regarding the good back catalogue, the exercise might be interesting as well, but I doubt it will deliver remarkable results. Yet, improvements are always possible: just listen to the magnificent live version of KW1 (or the BBC recording) with the music taking off after the second verse.

Cyclops KW1 with music taking off? ... this is my point. All of the little nuances NO have created by playing the songs often could be made into splendid new versions.

I take your point about Republic, I too would enjoy a re-working and hope they leave off that rap thing.

Just wondering what people have against 60 miles an hour. I think its a really great track and I've noticed that alot of people I know who aren't necessarily New Order fans have commented on how good this song is when I've been playing it.

It isn't an 'outstanding' NO song, and as such, succumbs to the odd joke or three.. It is a credible song though, which is possibly where the problem stems. With NO setting such high standards they really have to produce magic to appease the fans.

The correct sentence would be: "você gosta de biscoitos e queijo ou prefere apenas snacks da "Pringle"? Still I'll give you 14 out of 20 for the effort, lad!

Sorry George, I was trying to speak the lingo and ended up with egg surrounding my chins.

For Jimbob and for all who could not decipher the NO song code ... Teeth Paste is indeed True Fat. I could not think of a good name for that one and remembered I've ran out of Sensodyne.
