Not heard it but I heard the first CD of Hannett mixes and expect more of the same
ie - only ever so slightly different mixes and a few obscure sound effects
The rip-off merchant is selling pre-release copies for £45 on ebay
Hannett died skint, not made any money for years, what he did make was blown on his addictions,if Hannett wanted them published they would have been while he was stil alive.
Tony's dead, Rob's dead, Barney and Hooky didn't really like Hannetts productions, so who is it that has decided to start milking this cash cow. They should show some respect and let it lie.
It's Chris Hewitt behind these releases. He was a partner in Cargo Studios at some point with Hooky.
They now have Hannett's son posing with the tapes in the ebay pre-release £45-a-pop-thanks-very-much listing. Strikes me there is a bit of exploitation going on somewhere

Look at the cover pic - I seem to remember this was sold on ebay a while back as a private photograph.....
One of the surviving members of JD has apparently confirmed that there was no agreement in 1980 - this is a bootleg.
Don't know what others think, but we all know there are masses of bootlegs out there - and the majority make no bones about being boots. I'm fine with that.
When in this case they appear to show the release as official that's when I think the whole thing reeks.

I steered well clear of that initial "Hannett's Personal Mixes" CD a couple of years ago and this one will be getting the same treatment. The dodgy artwork looked horrible, all the reviews said the tracks featured were either lower quality album versions with only minor differences or obscure soundbites of no long term interest. The barrel scraping really does seem to know no bounds for a band who only put out two albums in their time but for once it seems fairly obvious Warners are not the villains here.
If bootleggers wanted to come out with a genuinely indespensible JD release then I'd be all for it, regardless of whether it pissed of Warners or not but this Hannett stuff has clearly been cheap tat right from the offset. If what is written in that auction is true it seems pretty tragic his surviving family have decided to endorse this shit for the sake of fleecing a few overenthusiastic JD completists online to the tune of £45 a pop.

It was intersesting to hear some of the 'studio banter' between Hannet/Gretton/Curtis from the first CD make its way on to the Joy Division Documentary.
Sort of who's bootlegging who?
i wouldn't mind so much but whoever transferred the recordings from whatever source they had made a right hash of it.
