Which albums would you like to see in the first batch of remasters?

I say the first three remasters should be Power Corruption & Lies, followed by Technique, and Brotherhood. What would be your choices?

Technique followed by either PC&L or Substance - which really does need a remaster - and maybe include the real Mesh.

I dunno, but I feel really good about this. I have a hunch that now the band probably won't work together on new material they'll now put their efforts into releasing quality retrospective products.

The Glasgow bonus disc is a statement of intent for me.

Interesting way too look at it. We saw hooky amazed at the PCL tracks, which surprises me. I do hope this remastering process, may heal what wounds were gaping enough to end the band.

I’ll wager dollars to doughnuts Substance will not be remastered. Why not? It’s effectively a best off, which never get remastered (I’ll gladly retract this if someone can find me an example); Singles is a relatively recent release and the two share too many track titles (if not the same tracks); and Spotnick didn’t ask us which tracks we’d like as a third disc were it to be remastered. Nope, the five we’re getting are the five first studio albums. The inclusion of (ideally unedited a la Substance) remastered versions of the appropriate singles (Blue Monday for PCL, Run 2 for Technique etc.) on the second CD (or SACD or DVD or – hell, why not? – Blu-Ray disc*) would also render a new version of Substance moot, assuming that’s what The Man has in mind.

My theory: they’ll be released in batches, a few months apart – probably all within six months. Why? Because a remastered Movement might disappear without trace were it released by itself, whereas much more palaver would be made in the press were, say, PCL 2.0 hit the shelves on the same day. And once these two have had a chance to bed in, Brotherhood: The Revenge and Lowlife Strikes Back to follow in all their newly tarted-up glory, followed by Technique Redux. Whether Republic, Get Ready and Sirens get the same treatment might depend on the success of the first five, which in turn depends on how much effort is made by Warners and the band. Here’s hoping Michael’s wish the process will help heal old wounds comes true.

Where the stuff left over from Sirens fits into this I don’t know – my crystal ball breaks easy.

But the artwork will be delivered late. FACT.

*Using the Depeche Mode re-releases as an template, there would me more than enough space to include a 5:1 mix of each album, b-sides/remixes/demos/alternative versions, rare non-album tracks AND a gig or two – to be mined be mined from Hooky’s basement and the glove compartment of Steve’s tank – on a DVD or Blu-Ray disc. I leave it to the good Doctor? to shoot me down on why such a move would sound utter gash… and By 'Eck! My Neck! to remind us he hates it when bands do that.

hmmm... how about Movement, PCL, Low Life? (ie, the order they were released!!)

now I will say that PCL is the one I'm most looking forward to, with Technique a close second (plus the leftover tracks from WFTSC -- they could really do that one first as a NEW ep)

Still, why would they release them in any order other than the original one?

The DM re-releases are fine, but having the extra tracks on the DVD disc was a real pain in the arse if you want them on your ipod.

And does anyone really listen to 5.1 mixes of albums on a regular basis?

the depeche 5.1's sounded like shite, after i'd ripped them. Though you get to hear odd bonuses(Dave singing the chorus of "home" with martin, and Fletcher singing on The sun and the rainfall.). Imagine blue monday 5.1? It would work well with temptation, since there are a ton of samples on that one. Ah well, whatever they'll throw at me, i'll purchase.

Stones remastered Hot Rocks and MOre Hot Rocks, so it is not totally unheard of.

In order would be fine, but what I don't want is to have them spread out over years. Give us 3 every few months or something..

It's a compilation with integrity before Warners started fucking jizzing all over the back catalogue.

And as such is part of New Order's amazing legacy - this might sound cheesy, but it really does have... substance - and isn't some trite cash-in called 'The Hits', or 'The 12" mixes', or 'The Singles' - you'd have to be fucking mad to release something called that :-0

I concur with you, we need a remastered version of the perfect kiss and temptation off substance. It would be nice to hear the second disc remastered as well. Well knowing warner it'll be some gay, online only type deal. They'll milk us dry, I mean look at what theyre doing to Joy Division, and it frightens me that i'll sadly buy anything NO related these days. Im sure there will be another best of released, count on blue monday, regret, and bizarre love triangle being on it. Though for some reason, technique and power corruption and lies never get love on those compilations.

Low-Life, Technique-- my favorite NO albums

I'd prefer them to be released chronologically as 2cd+dvd packages , a month apart each and at a retail price of no more than £8.99.....

The poor quality of some of the earlier albums is part of my love for those albums. I really don't care about remastering them. I won't be purchasing them... unless of course they add a good chunk of new material to them... but if its only one song per album, I'll rip that one song on the 'net.

aw crap, i wrote a reply and Firefox ate it. Suffice to say, all the albums on one day. Second dsic would be a DVD with a live show and MP3's of all the stuff not previously on an album as an 'appendix' and demos, etc. inc the iTunes set.

I dunno, as I am a bit mixed about these. Sure I want to hear remastered versions and all the extra "goodies" that may be tagged on the end, but this is tempered by the fact that this really will be the end, there will and can be nothing else to release then, and that is quite sad.

Ouch. Harsh but fair, I guess. I like the Depeche Mode DVDs more for the 5:1 mixes. Not having a 5:1 set-up might be afactor there though. Although ripping a 5:1 tune seems to be missing the point, I’d suggest – like watching 3D films without the glasses.

I stand corrected and narrow the odds on my bet of Substance not being remastered accordingly (although that’s only two best ofs out of literally tens if not hundreds of thousands). But I still foresee the Substance tracks appearing on the second CD/DVD/whatever of each remaster, ideally in untruncated form.

Unless the powers that be decide on a Substance 2 – assuming interest in a compilation of the salient extended/remixed forms of all post-Truth Faith singles, of course.
