Joy Division Zune (official) picture and price

interestingly enough (or not), in the documentary "Joy Division" itself, there is footage of an iPod menu loading up the track "Atmosphere".
The two works are "Unknown pleasures" and "Closer" and that's it. Everything else is merchandising: merchandising of memory.
I originally thought that this Zune idea was a joke. I'm just mildly upset that they ended up hitching the name and the design to such a shit product.

I will actually go and buy this, I have held off on the IPod, because too many people own one. but his on the other hand, will be a bit more in character for me, and most reviews of the newer Zunes show that it is a much improved MP3 player, and if it had come out 4 years ago would have been competition for the IPod.

Just like the ad suggests, I'm gonna make sure on June 17th I have my finger on the trigger....
....oh, but not really interested in purchasing the Zune though.

Some knob there complains that with his movies being 2GB he will get a Zune because they have more space. What kind of tosspot watches movies on a three inch screen anyway?
There's a reason iPod has a majority share of the market.

Er, loads of people, shirley? I watch TV on my iPod whilst on-the-move all the time.
The one chance I ever have to catch up on stuff is travelling to/from work or on a train or flight somewhere, so it's good to have your own selection of entertainment at your finger-tips.
On my iPod at the moment I've complete series of Oz, Deadwood and Family Guy. I've got the movie Morvern Callar and a BBC4 documentary on the Clash. If you're on the go a lot you get to watch 15mins snippets of these things here and there, rather than not getting to see them at all.

The issue isn't a lack of desire to have the things in life that most people consider normal, the issue is the lack of desire to do exactly what everyone else does, just because everyone else is doing it. So, just because everyone else dropped whatever music player they were using and bought an IPod doesn't mean that it made the most sense, or was the most practicle decision, so I kept my Sony minidisc player. I have now reached the end of the minidisc player's lifespam and I am looking for the Mp3 player that best fits my needs and according to more than one tech mag, the new Zune's are every bit as good as the IPod, so why not buy this?

I understand you, but to me it just seems so crap. It's like me listening to NO on my iPod, compressed mp3s playing at 128kbps, and saying this is awesome, compared to a CD which plays at 1411kbps.

I hope you people are able to read and see it's not the official design, just a photoshop job of a fan who did this to see what it COULD look like.

Because you can organize yer music much better on iTunes than through WMP... and iPods have waaaaaaaay more/better add-ons and gadjets to get....

Depends on whether you spend a lot of time travelling or not... If, like me, you spend 9 hours a week travelling (by train), then iPod music/movies are a godsend... Also, if you stay in hotels and the only entertainment is bog-standard tele...
Anyway, I store 320kbps on my iPod (plus decent headphones) - virtually indistinguishable from a 1.44Khz CD, unless you've got a decent hi-fi...

Well, my zune plays uncompressed NO and JD...using windows media lossless.

IMO, Sony's players are total crap, overpriced crap. There is no worse consumer electronic brand nowadays than Sony; worse than Microsoft. I would be angry if Joy Division and New Order would ever be associated with a company that introduced rootkits to the mass.

Well iPods do play video too you know. iPod has the majority share because it was the best looking and well designed player, but it doesn't mean that others can't catch on. I've seen the 2nd generation Zune and they look very good too. I already have the iPod video and was tempted to buy the 8 GB Zune, but the size of the screen was too narrow so I decided not to whilst the 80 GB Zune was nice, but too big. I guess I'll keep my iPod a bit longer.

The best thing I ever got for my iPod is the podfreq, its an FM transmittor that uses the iPods battery... not like the stupid itrip or other crappy ones, this actually plays through walls, and has crystal clear transmission by about a 100ft radius... so I can effectively play my ipod in every stereo in the house at the same time. Zune doesn't have that.....
but like I said before, the software program that runs yer mp3s on itunes is way better than WMP....
Though one advantage the Zune software has over itunes is that it will search through all of those songs that are incorrectly labeled (like those ones taht may have come from a P2P service) and relabel them correctly. Works on about 80%-85% of the songs that don't have a artist listed.
My Creative Vision:M shits on all other music players.
Apple are taking the piss with their iPod range. Fancy letting yourself get tied to the dumb iTunes interface - I don't know why anyone bothers. I can drag files from any device and play them how I want.
I am 35% happier than an Apple owner - fact.
