Theres a complication of covers coming out celebrating 25 years of independant music. The Charlatons are doing a cover of "Murder". Some over group is covering LWTUA and someone else "Ghost Town". Thats all I can remember from "Metro Lite" this week.

30 years of Indie? What's this bollocks? Indie's a generic term that lost any meaning years ago, and has been used by the corporates - certaionly since 'Britpop' - for their own capitalistic ends.
It would be interesting to know which label's issuing this album...
Didn't indie die about 15 years ago?, after the Major record labels shit themselves post-Madchester and start buying up labels and acts, so as not to have a 1990 situation again when indies were outselling everything for a while, and confusing Totp. And getting the charts to change the rules about chart sales and airplay etc?

As has been pointed out, Indie is a term that has been overused / misused for the past decade and a half. It's now a fashion statement associated with skinny jeans and not a term used to describe a band on an independent label I.e. the proper definition.
Basically, kids these days are numpties. Guarantee if you ask them what the original meaning of "indie" is they'll give you a blank look

Most bands that teenagers and college kids today call "indie" are garbage.
Plus, all 'indie" bands today sound the same....guitar driven wank crap. And its funny how many "indie" bands today embrace prog rock, shit metal, and hippie singer/songwriter shit....the very things that Punk and Indie were sort of railing against when they started.
Its all come round, hasn't it?
Yep, indie used to just mean a band on an independant label. Which is why The Smiths, NO-JD, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, the Replacements, REM, Depeche Mode, and tons and tons of hip hop and electronic acts could all be termed indie.
Now "indie" is a way too look and sound, and its shite. Its dead as a dornail, just like punk is.
However, I think that punk and indie live on in spirit. I would not be making the music that I make today if it weren't for me hearing The Sex Pistols, New Order, PIL, Talking Heads, Cure, ect, when I was 14 and thinking, "Hey man, I can do this too!"
I love making and releasing music. I cannot sing for shit and I don't have a label, but the spirit of punk and indie is what made me think I could make music in thr first place, with no rules and no boundaries.

If it wasn'y for Punk and seeing Citizen Kane when I was 12, I never would have had to confidence to break out of the area I grew up in. :) The music moved me to act!
