Love Vig. - one of my least faves on record, but I really enjoyed them playing it live
& I've heard a few other live takes on it since & they have all been good
still not pushed about the LowLife version tho
hated jetstream with a passion when i first heard the studio version. after hearing it live, i only hate it reservedly now.
Confusion, undoubtedly. Hated the initial releases, but do quite like the live style version they put on Substance.
Guilt is a useless emotion. Not one of my favoutires on WFTSC but enjoyed it live when they played it in blackpool

I was lucky enough to hear As It Is live in 85, before Brotherhood was released. I figured that maybe it was gonna be one of those songs that would be totally dropped from the set or substantially reworked altogether, so I was happy enough when the song appeared on the album.
From the last album, Hey Now What You Doing became a song I loved after hearing it live.
These Days - Never cared that much for the original Joy Division version (the weird mix and vocal effects) but I thought it came across far better in the live arena from New Order. The Glasgow DVD rendition has been on my iPod a fair amount over the past couple of weeks.
As It Is When It Was - The album version is very flat and unimpressive but the song comes alive at Reading '93 and various earlier gigs. It definitely suffers from the "Brotherhood effect" where the songs are quite good at heart but the production and mixing fucks it all up.
3 for me.
1st Temptation. I never cared for the song and couldn't figure out why they always played it every concert, until I went to my 1 live show and herd it live, now I agree with New Order It's a must song for the live shows.
2nd Guilt is a useless emotion. The live version makes the difference.
3rd All Joy division songs. I was never a fan of Joy Division until Barny sang the songs. now I know I'm not a Curtis fan.

Beaten by the first post in the thread! I never liked the song until I popped in Disc 4 of "Retro". Blew my mind. It's become one of my most-listened to NO tracks of all time.

On Low-life it just sounds like filler, but that performance in Tokyo 1985 just blows everything away.

I just watched the entire Live in Glasgow DVD for the first time and the live version of Guilt is a Useless Emotion was a revelation, probably because I could really hear Hooky's bass which was barely present on the album version. What a difference!
we all stand. Absolute stinker on record but the PFD and Barca '84 performances made me see it in a new light.
And, as others have said, the whole of Movement. Never really listen to that LP but much of it, especially Denial, ICB & Truth was amazing live- the intense performances of that first number on the Italy '82 tour are pretty amazing.

I concur about Movement, and am partial to the performances on Taras Shevenko and also the complete session from Granada TV in 1981.
Ruined In A Day. The live versions have a magic that the studio recording very much lacks.
True Faith. I LOVED the Morning Sun remix, and found the NO mix a little dry. Then I saw them debut the 98-revamp at the Apollo. I remember at the exact moment the drums kicked in with that soaring keyboard line and turned to my brother who was also in the pit and told him "THIS is the best fucking gig of my life." At that point, I thought they were playing some weird remix of Spooky.
800 gigs later, I still stand by that statement.
