Just a small question about the song....
My favorite version of She's Lost Control is the 12 inch re recording that Joy Division did in late 1979 or early 1980. I like the drum sounds better, I think Ian's voice is more powerful, and I like the icy synths that come in at the end. Its this version that New Order have based thier live version on.
Well, I was listening to the live version of SLC on disc 4 of the Heart and Soul Boxed set. There are two live versions of the SLC on this disc...
I was listening to the second version, the last track on the CD, which I think dates from a concert in pate 1979 or early 1980.
This version of SLC is either based on the 12 inch re recording or vice verse...its quite powerful...
At the end. of the song, the icy, glacial synth lines that I love so much come in. They are being played by Barney, obviously...
But underneath Barney's synth, Hooky's bass, and Steve's drumming, I can hear a second guitar being played. At first I thought my ears were playing a trick on me..but its there.
My question is..who is playing that guitar. Was Ian? I know he played guitar on a few tracks live but I always figured he was busy doing his dead fly dance at the climax of SLC...
And Barney is obviously busy playing the synth, that or he is magically playing synth and guitar at the same time..
Or maybe Barney is playing guitar and Ian is playing synth?
Does anyone know? Ive been wondering.
Also, when Joy Division and New order played the song Heart and Soul live...
Was the throbbing electronic bass line played live by Barney/Gillian or was it programmed?
Ive always wondered that as well.
Now give me a break if these questions seem overly analytical to you....its a long and boring summer here in Ohio!
