As I remember it, (which isn't much to go by!) it was started under factory, but took years, factory were well and truly down the pan before the half way point.

Factory declared bankruptcy in November 1992. "Republic" was released in May 1993... six months later

I did say my memory isn't much to go by, I was under the influence a lot in those days!

I still stand by the remainder of my comments though. but again, I loved it at the time as it was new output, and I bought all the different mixes of the singles and was constantly annoying my mates playing them at every opportunity, the spooky stadium mix isn't too bad, had a good hooky intro, I just think Hague removes too much hooky, which to me stops it sounding like new order and makes it sound like electronic, without Marr.

No,you are right,Republic was recorded whilst Factory was still a going concern & N.O.were a Factory band.There are numerous interviews whereby the band state that they were going to many board meetings about Factorys' finances & all felt the pressure that as a new album was needed to turn things around,it wasn't being recorded in the best atmospere,regardless of the internal problems they were having also

It's one of my favourite albums, actually. I'd say it sounds a bit like Bernard's side project Electronic (which I also listen to), but it also seems that opinions are divided for this album among fans---they seem to either like it (like me), or dislike it intensely.

I think the Young Offender song thing was just a coincidence, (both albums came out in 1993, share the same title, and same producer), but whatever.
