I apologize in advance if this topic has been discussed, but wasn't able to pull up anything searching...
I'm comparing the samples they have up on the iTunes store to the rips I made off of my Heart and Soul CDs. I'm not sure if it's just me, but it seems like all they did was bump up the gain on the collector's editions to the point where it sounds like the audio is clipping. Anyone else notice this too?
Sorry didn't buy them but someone else on here has commented on the QUALITY on these not being too IMPRESSIVE.See if i can dig these out.
I wouldn't discuss sound quality of remasters with MP3 rips and itunes samples. Play them on a decent hifi system.

I'm happy with my COLLECTION already.

I get what you are saying, but clipping is clipping. It's not like I'm listening through my laptop speakers. I've got a decent set of headphones which have served me well enough to notice a difference between good quality and bad quality. I believe those 30 second samples are actually encoded at the quality you would get when purchasing from the store. I don't have the remasters on CD, so I was wondering if someone had done a CD to CD comparison.
But I have a friend with a subscription to Rhapsody and had him send me the version they offer. I noticed the same amount of distortion. I hope my hearing isn't going.
Eh, sorry I can't be of help to you with this, as I only have "The Best of Joy Division" on cd, and it sounds fine to me..
The remasters are less muddy than the originals with a lot of the background effects more up front instead of being buried in the background. No clipping at all.
