Well, these are not really answers, but just looking for explanations to sound like someone who seems to know everything... as if I don't know where these versions were used for... So, tell me, what's the 'need' in putting a special different version on a US promo, bother to re-edit the original mix for the video...etc. etc. It just makes no sense.

of course i didn't work for factory/london..

but i did work with group KMFDM for some time, and when i asked about why they had so many releases, edits, etc, they told it was all due to marketing, and different regions. the band didn't have that much control about what got released after the label took it. now they control their own music, so they can control it a lot better..

the same situation probably happened for new order, once it's out of the bands hand, the studio can commission whatever release mixes, promo mixes, radio edits, club mixes get done... but the actual details of the edits are not up to them..

videos can be very complicated, as in this case especially because the video included original footage, and sounds not in the original song, how are they supposed to use the same mix for that?

of course they're going to have to recut it for the video, also, sometimes their are remix videos, such as for world, and sometimes extended videos too.

if you have worked in the music industry, you would know these issues..

by the way, they get licensing fees for using their songs in movies, and soundtracks ..

so thats why its to their advantage to release new versions for soundtracks..

because they know it will tempt some people to buy them, just to get that version..

temptation in 'something wild' true faith in 'bright lights, big city' etc

well i got the promos today..

they're in excellent condition..

however, as listed in niagara:

7": UK 1985 (Factory FAC 123-7) [promo] 3:51 The Perfect Kiss (edit) 3:01 Kiss of Death (edit)

is WRONG..

the edits are just the normal edits, and not new..

7": UK 1985 (Factory FAC 123) + 4:48 The Perfect Kiss 5:09 The Kiss of Death **

maybe there's some more hiding out there, but i'm beginning to doubt it..

What's the title of this mix? Cannot believe it's Radio 1 DJ Mix, is it?

I got the 7": UK 1985 (Factory FAC 123-7) [promo] 3:51 The Perfect Kiss (edit) 3:01 Kiss of Death (edit)

I have to admit that the labels are not indicating it is a promo, unless there was never a regular UK 7" release and only 'promos' have been released? But it seems there was (Factory FAC 123).

Anyway, good for you, the singles are in excellent condition.

By the way, I don't understand what you mean with [black]'normal edits and not new..'[/black]

i meant, the tracks on the 'promo' 7" are not new edits (even with the same times)..

they are just the regular 7" inch edits that we have already heard...

Ahhh I see, yep old ones to me, as this was one of my first New Order 7" I bought in the late 80's... It was harder to get hold of the Dutch 7FBN123 single as this one, even though I live in the lowlands!

But did you really expect to hear versions you've never heard before? :brow:

yes that is the name of the mix.... here is the full playlist, which i found online but as you can see the kiss of death is not specified which version...

So it's probably the original, but most likely mixed into other songs, therefor it might sound different.

Cut Copy are remixers in their own right. I'm sure that's something they put together themselves for use in that DJ mix, which means you'll likely never get your hands on it. It's mixing in parts from the Linus Loves track right before it, and they're playing with the tuning/pitch on the vocal and bass. I don't think it's very good, either, and The Perfect Kiss is my all-time favorite song.

Blowoff (Bob Mould & Richard Morel) did a DJ set here in San Francisco two weeks ago. Richard has remixed tons of artists - including New Order - under the name Pink Noise. They played on a Saturday night and Richard threw a remix of Tears For Fears' Pale Shelter into the set that he'd literally put together the day before. The tools are easily available for anyone who has an ear for mixing to create their own versions of songs - just look at the proliferation of mash-ups.

Hell, even I've done my own mix of The Happy One. It's not hard.
