i second that....

i saw them in NYC in 05, and it was decent except some bad soundboard issues, but since then, i see videos that are just hideous, missing bass notes, vocals mailed in, strange whistling over the vocals.... OVER.

do like the Beatles and just do studio work.... it might even make them more ambitious sonicwise, knowing they dont have to replicate it on a tv show live....

i don't wanna see hooky grimacing as he tries to go low with the bass anymore.

way too much wincing on stage the past two years.

enough!

less time spent on live crap would mean more studio time and more songs released....

General consensus was that the NYC show was the worst show of the mini tour.

But they were brilliant in Chicago.. Barney sounded great and Hooky was spot on. The band had tons of energy and so did the audience.

yes but most gigs are shit nowadays, at one time bands used gigs to hone new songs and develop a sound, now its just about marketing and its shit, that goes for new order, coldplay,u2, next years big thing or pub band with a cd to shift, total bollocks

Was that the TERRACOTA ARMY gig where the audience stood there as if they were nailed to the floor and on mogodon?

Not from what I remember. The place was jam packed and we were all pogoing like bastards & going mental from the first drum beats of "Love Vigilates". Perhaps it was the (much derided) New Yawk gig?

I'd prefer them to leave it . not the best way to end , but its obvious to any observer that the magic has gone . The fact that the remasters are not what most of us wanted and the extra beat on Blue Monday shows they dont care about us . The fans . Get ready and Waiting for... would have made one decent album between them . But I have scarcely listened to either since release . They just dont grab me . Without sounding twatty , New Order changed my musical life . I can remember where I was when I first heard them (er...1983 in Lee Saunders house loft (dont ask...)his brother was playing PCL in his room ). They altered they way I listended to music and influenced what I liked and why . For the first time I saw 4 individuals contributing to the sound , to the texture of the music . Those days of 4 mates making music - long gone . I wish them luck in what ever they do and will seek out at least to hear what they make musicwise .

Agreed. I think its the right time to call it a day and i won't be waiting for the siren's call. However, Get Ready has aged very well in my book.

Its always funny when i hear this because its not what i experienced.

I don't see it happening. The break-ups of the past were serious enough at the time but Hooky saying he'd left the band at the end of the South American tour in Nov 06 sounded pretty definite to me and without Hooky there can be no New Order as we knew it (in my opinion).

There is a seismic difference now between the viewpoints of Hooky and Barney: Hooky sees himself as the keeper of the flame, keen to continue playing live and to play stuff that they'd either never played live before or old songs that were rarely performed latterly. He sees the live version of a song as the definitive version and hates spending time in recording studios whereas...

Barney wants to move on and looks to the future more. One of his reasons for forming Electronic was to get away from being in a band i.e New Order whereas Hooky wanted that band thing and continued with it in Revenge and Monaco. Barney sees the studio version of a song as the definitive cut. Barney prefers the studio (and his yacht!).

Ultimately they want different things and maybe they can't be reconciled. It could be argued that they achieved so much and there's nowhere left to go.

I agree that the seven unreleased WFTSC songs should be released at some point...if just for the completists like me! I'll never forget the times I saw them live, the last time being Wembley Arena nearly two years ago.

I thought Chicago was fairly stilted as well, to be fair. Certainly no one pogoing.

Really lovely venue in Chicago though, did like that one.

To be honest, I quite hope they don't come back now. I don't really need to hear any new studio albums. Wouldn't mind seeing them live again, though certainly no longer have the time, energy or indeed monies to follow them quite so aggressively. Biggest downside of them not being around is the slight dip in social interaction on this site, but people still seem to be ticking along with the likes of Re-Order, Kraftwerk, Chemicals and suchlike, so it's not all doom and gloom just yet.

I'd rather see the Jam or the Specials return first!

(Though not to play new material, heaven forbid!)

Would be nice...Freebass hasn't really taken off as expected and Electronic seem unlikely to get back together...It seems the obvious thing to do.

If I didn't know the band so well I'd say it was a publicity stunt of some sort that has back fired
