I know they are getting older and I know it's never been as publicly bitter as it's been in recent years but history shows that they'll put their differences to the side and at some point reunite again, whether it be for a tour or a new album, or both....It may be quite a wait though....thoughts?

The punctuation is wrong there mate. Should be:

'Why would you want them to get back together?'

No comma, see? ;)

i really dont want them to get back together at this point. they just look ridiculous at this point huffing around the stage, missing bass notes, reading teleprompters, etc....

nothing lasts forever.

it is ok.

1985 ain't gonna happen anytime soon.

Honestly, for no other reason that I don't like the fact that they all went out like this....sort of unsettling....I mean they overcame adversity and united after ian died, and became stronger than ever.....Is this really how you wanna see them going out? I wouldn't mind new music from New Order, at least a small small tour. Just a final album going out the right way. Or some sort of reunion at some point. I know it won't be for a while, but I hope more than anything that they can put their differences to the side and be cool again...at least Hook with Barney and Steve. But I guess i'm in the minority here...

i said never..

but if/when they start deciding to do the 'dinosaur' tour thing....eg: the police/ stones / eagles / steely dan

etc...

and they are offered BIG BUCKS, they will do it for money...

The next time they will have to pay their taxes. That s what Peter Saville said when Get ready went out.

New Order has obligation to their fans to complete an album for which they had recorded 7 tracks. So they'll get back soon.

They've done albums with between 5-8 tracks before(Admittedly the 1981-82 Factus 8/FEP 313 is as rare as batshit in digital form), so why not a mini-album with just those 7 tracks(be they with lyrics or not)? As far as touring goes, they really don't have thier hearts in it anymore(especially Bernard, being off the booze and pharmaceuticals, touring straight isn't the fun or long lasting hangover it used to be). That pretty much will put the lid on things I think.

New Order have no obligation to do that at all.

& would we want them to now, really? It's getting a bit creaky & starting to sour the memory a bit,I say leave it as it is before the legends start becoming a sad, laughing stock & ruin it all.The fookin' remaster saga has been bad enough, albiet not entirely to do with them, but you know what I mean

Never say never.

NO emerged from Joy Division and survived the death of Factory.

They split up before.

I expect for one reason or another they will get back together at some point. For the purposes of this poll I've said sooner rather than later.

Maybe it is wishful thinking.:confused2:

I'll tell you what: I hope they won't get together again in the (near) future. Just let them live their lives. I'm completely happy with what they've done the last 10 years. They reunited, did live gigs, big concerts, 2 albums and a couple of rarities. They won't reunite for money, maybe they will reunite (IF they do it, but I doubt it) because they enjoy making music together. Otherwise I won't believe that they come back together again.

so after the despair of joy division demises, to the empty 90,s im going yes.

Give it time. Every three or four years there has been a rapid exodus of toys from pram on the part of one or more members. Toys usually back in pram after about three years, which I reckon probably means some time next year......

Remember this is the first time they've really used the internet as a toy projection device, previously it's been more private and we've only got to find out when there has been a period of silence. Nothing's really changed in that respect, it always coincides with a tour and always has the same two protagonists :)

89 - Barney announces solo/offshoot project, Hooky gets the arse, New Order call it a day after acrimonious US tour

93 - Factory royalties squabble, band call it a day after acrimonious US tour

02 - ongoing royalties squabble, band call it a day after series of overseas dates that didn't quite constitute a tour but was long enough away for Barney

06 - ongoing royalties squabble, band call it a day after acrimonious South American tour......

The moral of this tale? Only do sporadic UK dates, steer well clear of the Americas, and spend quite a bit of time in the studio where 2/3 of the band are at their happiest! Hooky can go off and DJ/join Section 25/work on Freebass, and they'll all live happily ever after.

Shit this prozac is good!!

I feel that one reason that made it easier for New Order to get back together and be accepted in 2001 was that the music scene was on the verge of a Joy Division revival and JD's contributions were being recognized, name dropped, marketed, etc. This has already all come to pass, culminating in the Control and Joy Division films.

What may help bring New Order back in the future may require that same kind of 'revival' interest in New Order itself, and a recognition of their contributions to current music today.

With their age and the lack of a Tony Wilson or Rob Gretton, I fear the 'kids' may not have the guidance/persuasion/bribes they need to get back together.

I don't think so but you never know ....

Against my better judgement I've voted 1-4 years. I reckon they could. Any longer than that though and I'm not sure I'd want them too. I'd be too old for a start (I've only just got over October 06)

1-4 years...especially if they bank with the Halifax!

YES. Unequivocally.

I hope they atleast do another uk tour or two.

Yes, and they will release an album that 86% of us will find crap but 102% of us will buy (a few will buy extra copies)

When their fans improve markedly in quality.

All good things come to an end as they say...they have been together for a long time - that's got to get on your nerves being around the same people for so many hours for so long! I agree though that it would be a shame to end on such a bitter note after all this time and everything they have gone through and accomplished together. I think that at some point they will have a reunion tour maybe in a couple of years - time can do a lot to mend things..

true: people said they would never get back together:

the eagles did..

even more suprising,

the police did..

and how long did their fans wait?

10 years, 20 years...but it did happen..

you never know..

(but i still think they won't, because they don't want to be classified as dinosaurs)..

I think its entirely possible that they will get back together in a few years.

The main reason of the split is the rift between Hooky and Barney....I think Barney must have said something to Hooky that was disrespectful and inconsiderate enough to really piss Hooky off.

Eventually I think Hooky and Bernard will resolve thier issues because of thier history together...but its going to take a few years of them being away from eachother for wounds to heal.

Plus...I think that in a few years, electro/dance/house/whatever will become culturally prominent again...and we will see a resuring interest in New Order...

Then they will probably reform for at least some gigs.

I want them to reform, because I love thier music and because they ae brilliant.

I don't buy the age thing. Motorhead blew the roof off of the Newport here in Columbus last Monday and Lemmy is 62

Pet Shop Boys still tour, make successful albums, and they are pushing thier mid 50s.

I don't think New Order are dinosaurs. I watched footage of New Order performing at Personal Fest 06 in Brazil and they were fucking brilliant and the crowd was loving them.

I would be happy for some mre NO gigs and music. No one does it like New Order. Thats why I love them.
