I finally caved in and ordered the 2CD sets from Amazon.co.uk this week and they all arrived today. Funnily enough, it seems I've been sent the original withdrawn remaster of "Brotherhood" as it has the outer plastic case with "Collector's Edition". Can anyone advise how I can tell for definite whether its the flawed release?

There's an extra booklet and disc two says something like "catalogue number/2.2 V02" in the runout.

Mine says V01. Hmmmm, now to decide whether to get it replaced or not.. :)

Dear NO fans, I know that 2009 cd remasters were disaster. You know - knowing all the problems of loudness war etc... I did not bought these cd remasters. What I did was to buy Technique on 180 gram vinyl, issued in 2009 by Rhino/London.

To my question. Is this new version remastered or its reissue of the original Fac275?

I suppose that London Records own glass master of it, so for them is reissue non-problematic....? Problematic could be remaster (possibly), so Im asking some fans who know original Technique 1989 Fac275 on vinyl and this new 180 gram 2009 version, to tell me, is there any difference?

Reissue or Remaster?

Thank you

Sent my photo of defective items and an email to the good Doctor Rhino; it's like 3 years after buying the bloody CDs and thinking that nothing would ever get done about this. It's good to know that the record company (however slow) are replacing them.

I never bothered with these dreadful remastered 'collectors editions' but is it true that the ONLY WAY to tell them apart (the fixed versions from the original faulty ones) is the lack of the transparent plastic sleeve outer on the new versions?

Nevertheless, I remain utterly astounded at the shocking lack of quality control that accompanied these reissues from day one. It proves once and for all that Warners/Rhino treat the New Order fans with nothing less than contempt, and yet, bafflingly, it's a totally different situation when it comes to Joy Division's output, isn't it?

The fact that I refused to buy any more of their reissues or repackages is basically my way of telling them all to go fuck themselves.

A small point but upon chance listen today I've just noticed that "Salvation (theme)" on the fixed Low-life bonus disc seems to be a different mix with a audibly different keyboard part to the one on the defective pressing.

The one on the defective disc (I kept the MP3 rip) is identical to the version on the 1987 Salvation! soundtrack but the fixed disc seems to contain a new take.

An alternate version leaked out during the re-remastering process, I guess...?

It reminds me of the Temptation 7"/12" as it appears that different, smaller sections of the same longer recording were used. The keyboard bits are different, but Hooky is playing different variations as well. They probably started the sequencer and worked out their parts over the top. Both versions fade in/out so I can't really say which take comes first.

What made you dig these discs out? After the headache of getting the replacements, I just threw them up on the shelf.

Steve said in a recent interview that they were completely different takes - i.e. the 12" wasn't edited down for the 7"! :)

That does sound familier.

I hadn't said it had been edited down. The theory used to be that the 7" with the dead start and fade out was the beginning and the 12" fade in with dead stop was the end of one long version.

I keep emailing Dr.Rhino with my mug accompanied by all discs on my kitchen table; still no replacements or even one email response..... I re-send it every week without fail.

Just bought my first remaster yesterday "Low Life" - and only going by the fact that the 're-remasters" doesn't have the outer slipcase with "collecters edition" on it from HMV. Got lucky and it has 2.3 V0.2 on the bonus disc. Shame I didn't buy Technique as well which was also on the shelf, but didn't want to take the risk - as the bonus disc on the original remaster was ridiculously botched.

Anyone know the codes that the re-remasters have? As gathering from this thread it is impossible to tell from the outside packaging apart from the fact that you are less likely to get an original if you buy an album with no outer slipcase.

johnny james wrote: There were no packaging changes, and both editions exist with and without slipcases. However the fixed versions had an added booklet and if you look at the run-outs of the discs you can spot which is which.

Example: PCL

Original Disc 2: 256469369-8/2 V01

changes to

Fixed Disc 2: 256469369-8/2.2 V02

My copy says 256469369-8/2.3 V02 MVP :confused2:

Is it safe for me to buy these yet?

I've finally bought a new copy of this and I can confirm that CD 1 of Low-Life has also been fixed. The drop-out in Sunrise is no longer there.

The matrix of the fixed disc is 256469370-0/1.2 V02 OSF. I don't have the dodgy one handy to compare it, but listening to the two FLAC files side by side, the difference is night and day where the drop-out occurs on the old one.

Can anyone else confirm that the drop in Sunrise has been fixed? Not that I don't trust you Ian!

The version I got delivered today from Rhino UK has the drop out on Sunrise. CD2 is ok. This one came with the Collector's Edition slip case.

What's the matrix number of CD 1?

2564693700-0/1 V01 XTC Cd1

2.3 V02 CD2

It looks like you've got the fixed fixed version.:thumb:

It really is poor show from Rhino still knocking out a dodgy CD1 and as Ally says unless you can get at the disc through the cellophane/case you're not going to know which one you are going to get. At least Let's Go sounds beefed up and you get a different Salvation Theme. Movement and PC&L have been generally ok. Brotherhood next on the horizon.:uhoh:

I took a gamble earlier this week and bought the £6.99 (super saver delivery) version of Low-Life from Amazon UK. It arrived today and upon initial listenings it not only has the FIXED bonus disc but also has the FIXED Sunrise which no longer contains the channel drop out.

The Low-Life disc matrices are below for anyone interested:

CD1: 256469370-0/1.2 V02 OSF CD2: 256469370-0/2.3 V02 IPZ

The bonus disc also includes this "alternate" version of Salvation Theme I mentioned a page or two back in this thread.

Gambled and won this time, I guess.

Anyone bought Technique of Amazon UK? I'm still waiting for HMV to honour their order!

So after the "official" batch of corrections, there was ANOTHER correction of Low-life??? This is getting ridiculous... I guess I could risk ordering Low-life from amazon.co.uk now, but I'm outside the UK, and it may get shipped from a different warehouse, so it would be a gamble anyway...

I'm also outside the UK, but my copy had the fixed CD 1. I don't think you need worry.

And if it doesn't come with the fixed CD 1, just send it back for a full refund. Amazon are very good about returns.

Ok, thanks for the confirmation :)

so i've just got the new fixed re-reissues of Movement & Low Life from Amazon, all good. What about the other three, anyone got completelly fixed versions of these too yet?

Was Movement re-fixed too, not just Low-Life? And if so, what are the sound changes between the re-fix and the 2009 fix? Thanks.

Just received my Technique remasters from Amazon.co.uk and here are the disc matrices:

CD 1: 256469369-7/1.2 V02 OUX CD 2: 256469369-7/2.4 V02 CKY

Looks like its the fixed edition, came with two booklets and no slipcase - just a shrink wrapped digipak with a sticker identifying the album with "New Order Technique, the Factory years, remastered and expanded deluxe 2-cd set includes original classic album plus, etc, etc"

And for indiearchivist to add to the first post, here are my disc matrices for Brotherhood:

CD1: 256469369-9/1 V01 NPX CD2: 256469369-9/2.3 V02 BTA

I should receive Movement soon (hopefully the corrected one from Amazon UK) so will post those disc matrices when I have the time.

These are mine, just received from Amazon UK:

Movement: 256469369-4/1 V01 DAY 256469369-4/2.2 V02 LHB

PCL: 256469369-8/1.2 V01 IAV 256469369-8/2.3 V02 MVP

Low-Life: 256469370-0/1.2 V02 OSF 256469370-0/2.3 V02 IPZ

Brotherhood: 256469369-9/1 V01 NPX 256469369-9/2.3 V02 BTA

Technique: 256469369-7/1.2 V02 OUX 256469369-7/2.3 V02 KWL

So it looks like my Technique is not the newest one... seriously, f*** this s***!

Edit: added Low-Life

What I think is significant here is the V02, not the 2.3. This is the corrected disc; or if not the corrected disc, then one of them, and definitely an improvement on the original.

Confirm by playing Fine Line, which has a loud pop on the original, between 00:03 and 00:04. It's not there on the disc you have, which is also mastered more loudly than the botched one.

Now, if someone with both 2.3 and 2.4 would like to do a side by side comparison for us...

And who's to say a 2.5 won't appear at some point? No-one knew that a fixed disc 1 of Low-Life was coming, either, but I happened to notice that my new copy had been fixed and another user here has verified that.

I do agree with you, though, that the whole handling of these releases has been and continues to be an absolute disgrace.
