I was wondering why new order fans are mostly men. In england I heard it´s because our heros are from industrial cities with majority of male population. but I realized that this happens all around the world. I know quite well the brazilian fans (nearly all men) and in Argentina I don´t know any female fan besides my girlfriend and my sister. then I checked out the member list of THIS site and found out that more than 75% (much more I think) are men. Isn´t that weird? Would it be because they actually MAKE music for men as they were strongly influenced by that industrial enviroment? Just a thought.

I know quite a few birds who like the order - I remember when I started listening to them a lot around 87 - when I was at school, and a couple of girls in our year had Substance, New Order and The Smiths were most girls choices around that time
But I've never understood why they appeal more to men - maybe it's because of their "Fuck You" "Sarcastic" attitude, helped along by the fact they've always been cool as fuck, and one step ahead of the others;)

There are a lot of us laayyydeez who are New Order fans, but just to make a sweeping generalisation, I think once blokes get into a certain band they're more likely to become more fanatical.
Most of my female mates like New Order, but only so far as owning the odd CD. They're just not interested enough to want to look at this site, or read about them, watch their videos or whatever, however long I hold them in a headlock ;) Still, there's a few of my girlies seeing New Order live for the first time tomorrow, so who knows, maybe they'll see the light?!
you´re right on that. men ARE more fanatic than women in these kind of things. maybe female fanatism is always related to sex appeal matters, if a band member is cute, or something. in this case (new order) I think that won´t count because no one has the sexy type. I can´t imagine a girl having a histerical breakdown because of bernard´s dancing steps, or hooky´s belly, or stephen´s haircut.

Almanso, actually most of us NOOLiners are girls, I am for example a blond sex bomb, only we do not want to be pestered about and pretend to be lads.

totally disagree. gender has nothing to do with liking new order. in fact, i don't think that new order is very macho music is it? common, the guy is constantly singing about love gone wrong, resentment and all that vulnerable stuff that guys don't talk about. if anything, i think heavy metal is more gender based than new order will ever be. i'm a bit of a NO obsessive and i'm female! so you can't really generalise things like that.
Gender has everything to do with liking New Order, purely and simply because blokes tend to get more obsessive about these things than ladies ever could. Not just New Order obviously, but about music in general.
New Order have always had a reputation as a Lads Band on these shores (Engerland), admittedly as probably more of a Thinking Lads Band, but a Lads Band all the same. The Blackburn Youth, anyone? A X-Section of audiences at Order gigs proves this beyond a doubt. Bolstered also by a X-Section of people who inhabit forums such as these. Them's the facts. It's not a sexist thing, and neither would it be sexist to claim that, in the main, more women follow Barry Manilow, than blokes do.
Easy.. New Order is not N'Sync or the Backstreet Boys, hence why there is more males as fans :D

on the book "pleasures and wayward distractions" its mentioned the fact of male audiences on new order gigs. on the video "neworderstory" bernard sumner himself talks about two types of new order fans and one is the football-hooligan type. so there must be something beyond all this that could explain this tendency. I don´t have an answer though. that´s why I brought this topic for discussion.

I never thought of New Order as a guys kind of band before I heard Bernard mention that in New Order Story and on this forum ... I don't know if its just Australia or not, but most guys here wouldn't think of New Order as typical guys music ... That would be more like ACDC ... I mean, you put on Technique and it just sounds, well its not something that you would hear at the pub ...
Not that I care though ... If its good music, its good music ... No matter who listens to it ...
Hey, Brendan, I think in Australia most NO fans are the college/uni types - the other type as mentioned in NewOrderStory, probably due to the their arty-farty image from their LP covers and their position in electronic music...
But I think in UK, it is quite diferent scene altogether... Most NO fans are the typical gig football fans ( or hooligans, where were you guys in KoreaJapan? Thank god for that... )
So just imagine, Brendan, fans like Shugzy are just like your typical Chisel/Barnsey fan in the local pub in Australia......hee-hee ( sorry Shug )
why don't you look at the demographics of NO fans...i suspect most of ya in your 30s and 40s, cuz that's probably cuz you guys grew up with NO in the 80s, and you know we were all a little more fanatical about our bands as teens and early 20 somethings.
