Pardon my French, but fuck that. Paul Morley RUINS everything he writes "liner notes" for. The Yazoo box set was essentially 15 pages of the same paragraph over and over.

I'm actually looking forward to this since it's being compiled by Jon Savage. His book "England's Dreaming" was very thorough, plus the Palatine Box set left off a lot of the other Factory groups I like (The Names, Crispy Ambulance, Minipops, Swamp Children, Royal Family and the Poor)

You can most likely guarantee the man's estate who was the catalyst and original backer of most of this music will get precisely nothing (AHW).

Probably, especially as it's the respective bands that the music needs to be licensed from. Maybe this time the bands themselves can receive some recompense for their work (rather than sorry, we've spent it on a table).

Amusing that all the "vinyl is better than CD" crowd cry when offered a digital recording made from vinyl on 20 grand's worth of kit.

Well I'd buy it. I've got Palatine on vinyl so wouldn't mind having a factory compilation on CD. Agree with one of the posts up there. Palatine missed out on a lot of acts and didn't use the best track of artists which were included (Kan Kill & How Corrupt Is Rough Trade by the Stockholm Monsters being the obvoius ones).

So it looks like all the groups I mention will be on this box set, plus this track listing is a million times better than the Palatine set. I'll certainly be getting this.

Happy Mondays "Freaky Dancing" is also a plus. I missed out on an auction for a double disc version of "Loads" which is the only CD that has it.

If it represents well some of the Factory art, and has a good sampling of tracks? ... why all the bitching? you guys complain no matter what and would want something no one would buy in any event.

Can't be quite as half arsed as the New Order re-issues, which seemed done by an intern during summer break.

The promo I have seen was as follows:

5. Joy Division - She's Lost Control 4:54 Cover states 3'56, it plays the 4'54 re-recording

6. New Order - Ceremony (Original Version) 4:25 Cover states 4'25, it plays the second version

7. New Order - Temptation 7:01 Cover states 8'41 version, it plays the 7'01 version from 1987

8. New Order - Confusion 4:44 Cover states 4'42, it plays the 1987 version

9. Northside - Take 5 4:12 Contains 4'12 version

10. Cath Carroll - Moves Like You (Remix) 6:33 Plays 6'33 album version not 12"

11. The Other Two - Tasty Fish (12" Mix) 3:51 Cover states 5'20, plays 3'51 version

The fact that the sleeve differs from the contents suggests that there may be a move to alter some of these but who knows at the moment.

It does indeed look like someone has fooked up again,as Temptation '87 is definately on the tracklist,I listened to it on Play,which is fine if that was the intention,but if it's running chronologically,or even similar to Palatine,then it's stuck in the '81/'84 section,after EGG & before BM....doh!

They are supposed to be having the 12" Temptation on there, Confusion (original), Ceremony (Original) plus SLC (re-recorded version, because they prefer it).

The final release *should* be fixed in this manner.

Received it today,it's a nice piece,compiled by John Savage & all tracks documented by James Nice.Tracks are all originals,Temptation,Confusion 12"'s,the digital releases must be different as they are both the '87 remixes

...sounds good ! What is the sound quality like - loud and compressed or does it have some dynamic range? If James Nice has been involved I would expect the sound to be OK.

I've only listened to CD2,'81-'84,upto now,sounds fine to me but mixed a bit low maybe,or might have been where I was sat at the time? Very happy with it nonetheless,very much closer to what the reissues should have been,& also to a true Factory release.The tracks aren't going to be to everyone's liking,I've grown up with most of it so I just accept it.& GREEN CD's too,niiice :)

The promo set for this box is available on ebay at the moment for £5 which seems like a bargain compared with £30 for the finished article.

However, what concerns me is that this thread indicates that some of the tracks maybe the incorrect ones on the promo. Can anyone confirm that the Promo Cds (not the download) are indeed different from the finished retail box.

I've got the official version, and the first disc is the only one still with the JD/NO errors mentioned above.

The booklet lists the Unknown Pleasures version of "She's Lost Control" while the 12" version is obviously what is on the CD.

The booklet states that they have the original version of "Ceremony" but the CD has the second version.

The full original 12" "Temptation" is there at the right speed and "Blue Monday" starts with two beats like most CD versions. The 1983 full 12" version of "Confusion" is there. EGG 12". Substance version of "True Faith". Album version of "Fine Time". The booklet inside lists these versions or times, so these match.

The set doesn't really give much love towards Peter Saville. I guess he had the bad taste to not die yet.

Have not checked or don't know if there are errors with other bands tracks.

Sorry, I'm too lazy to learn how to make some audio graphs and I don't really care enough, doesn't seem like any vinyl rips.

At this point I don't care if or when the label sorts this bullsh*t out. I'll not buy another New Order-related item EVER, and I've spent literally thousands of dollars collecting them over the past 25 years. They've lost me as a customer, and for all the band drama over the past two years, pretty much lost me as a fan.

It's completely clear to me that they don't care anything about their fans or their legacy, so I've stopped caring, too.

It was intended that the re-recorded SLC be on there, it's the band preferred version. Might not be strictly chronological on here but that's a minor detail. To be ultra picky it could be pointed out that Transmission also came out in Dec 1980 (on 12").

I'll believe it when I see the graphs to prove it. Until then they can shove their box where the sun don't shine.

In fact, I've just looked at the tracklist for this for the first time and it looks good. I've not got a lot of the tracks on there and if they're all of the quality of the ones I do know, it will be a nice collection. I'll probably buy that one

Anyone having trouble getting disc #4 to play in any of their machines?

Yeah, I'm struggling with it in my lathe, ceiling hoist and vending machines. It just kind of sits there. Doing nothing.

The Pitchfork review is up. Its not a badly written text. Not too much about Joy Division or New Order, but that's the point I suppose.
