New Order covering Paint it Black (LIVE)

Okay, now that I've gotten your attention...

I was listening to Echo & the Bunnymen's live version of The Rolling Stone's "Paint it Black" and it was pretty good, but I was thinking how it would sound if New Order were to perform this track at a gig. I doubt they have ever covered this timeless classic, but can you imagine Barney in his mesmerizing vocals singing, "I see a red door and I want to paint it black" and so on while the band jams out this tune? In fact, I could see Ian even doing this song with his energy.

So I ask everyone, what non-New Order related song would you like to see (or hear) the Order play for a first time ever live?

What was that old Divine song, Love Reaction was it? I reckon they could make a pretty good job of that....

I reckon chances of N.O. covering P.I.B. are like nil - BUT, seeing that Hooks favourite song is "Ruby Don't Take Your Love to Town" written by Mel Tillis & performed by Kenny Rogers/George Jones (I kid you not) then I suppose anything's possible.

So, I guess this little ditty will feature on the Back To Mine compilation then?!

"London Calling" by the Clash would be another good one for the Order to cover.

"With or Without You" by U2 is another one.

um, can't think of anything now...but any cover songs by NO are welcomed! they seem to like to do velvet underground songs. maybe an echo and the bunnymen song? who knows.

Anyway, I agree with whoever posted London Calling. Throw in Baby Got Back and Hey Ladies and we've got Barney showing his rap skills. Maybe a take on Heroes.....

I'm having some fun with this post. While my vote still goes for P.I.B. by the Stones, I can't help but ponder other tunes (not necessarily timeless classics either) that would raise a few eyebrows seeing/hearing New Order cover....

3. The Doors - "Hello, I Love You"

4 The Cure - "Love Song" and "Just Like Heaven"

5. Duran Duran - "Ordinary World"

6. Nirvana - "Come as you are"

There's some slightly scary suggestions being bandied around here... New Order aren't really a cover band are they. Paint it Black is a classic tune but it's been done to death.

What about "Everybody Wang Chung Tonight?"

Or perhaps they could get together with Morrissey, Badly Drawn Boy, Tony Wilson, Doves and ex-members of the Roses, James and Mondays to form a Manc Supergroup. At the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games they could belt out an uplifting power version of "We Built this City on Rock and Roll"?

I'm getting all teary just envisaging it.
