I like that; like we're meant to lap up everything they put out with sycophantic awe. Maybe if we were fans of a lesser band that might be the case but New Order always set the bar pretty high. I don't think New Order attract that type of fan anyway, everyone's got their own take on things even if it is miserable most of the time.
But if I was them looking at all the disrespect for the last two albums, for not being able to live up to some impossibly high standard, why bother putting it out there if nobody appreciates it? What else are they supposed to think?
It's not nearly as one sided as you're trying to boil it down to for your argument. Both albums had their share of haters and lovers with neither really dominating. That's the point of a forum; opposing viewpoints for discussion. At the end of the day the proof is how many people showed up to their gigs which in the case of a fair few here is loyally high. It's also what made the band their money and they know it.
If you seriously think Bernard is sitting at his computer reading these forums with tears rolling down his cheeks deciding "I'm not making any more music for these ungrateful bastards" then you're a bit off the mark. They don't and never have cared what most people think of them... that's part of the charm isn't it?
It's simple capitalism why they (and the label) aren't interested in releasing new material... it's not "feelings" driven. If the label doesn't think it will sell then they won't bother and if anything the majority of this forum has been screaming for them to release new material. The day to day NO fanbase probably isn't big enough to make it financially viable.
The sad thing is it probably isn't even representative of most of their fans. Most people wouldnt be motivated to post stuff on here unless they felt compelled to moan.

In essence, the best tracks from GR and WFTSC would have made an excellent album:

Oh dear! It's been brought to my attention that I've allowed a typo to remain in the word "lieutenant," a word of the utmost importance to pronounce properly, let alone spell. If the unreleased tracks from WFTSC are in any way poor which is entirely possible given the hit miss quality of what was released, you have to wonder HOW they could issue them. I mean, how do you promote it if the band aint together?
There may be enough for a full album but it would be a mistake to release it as such surely as it will reflect on the back catalogue.
Maybe the best way would be to repackage it with WFTSC as a double album then at least it would have some decent singles with it.
