I was struck by the picture of a band tipped for good things as part of the BBC's Sound 2009 feature, who are clearly paying homage to an iconic image.

I know little about them but they (or their photographer) know a good picture when they see one.

I've heard six tracks off the debut album, and yup, this lot are going to be very big, very quickly in 2009. It's very death disco, and highly polished.

Think I might have said enough about them on this site already.

They sound like Marylin Manson  Can any comparison for a band be worse than that?

But hey i'm sure they'll be massive.

This thread was the first I've heard of White Lies. I actually like them quite a lot. I first heard of Editors on this forum and they became one of my favorite bands. NOOL is a good source of new sounds for me, apparently!

For a sneak preview, there is a 5 track MTV session here.

The JD comparisons will be obvious, but there is some early NO in there too, particularly with the drums and keyboards on 'Farewell to the Fairground'. These chaps are going to be enormous.

Listened to the album and it's more Teardrop Explodes than JD/NO to my ears with echoes of the the guy from Baby Bird doing vocals.

Might grow on me but have to say I'm a bit disappointed after the single.

Sounds like early Duran Duran to me. (To Lose My Life = Girls On Film ?)

With a singer who thinks he's Brandon Flowers.

Not bad I suppose.
