Modern Similar Bands?

What other modern bands do you guys listen to that are like new order, or what bands would you reccomend to other new order fans? Besides the obvious older 80's stuff, I'm looking for newer groups.

There are NO bands like NEW ORDER.But there are loads of great new bands.The DOVES,MERCURY REV,DEATH IN VEGAS,GARBAGE,CHEMICAL BROTHERS,THE WHITE STRIPES,THE STROKES,B.R.M.C to name a few.But each to there own taste. I also enjoy KFC and beer. ROCKET MICK

um, i don't know. i'm sure there's lots, but the NO sound isn't really being hyped up right now, so there aren't that many.

I can't think of any bands that sound like New Order but I can think of some bands that have taken a similar approach to making music to New Order (by which I mean they are willing to experiment, especially with technology, and are driven by a love of music rather than the desire to make money or become famous).

For starters there's Primal Scream. "Screamadelica" is an incredible album and even though music journalists often get over-excited about bands (such as The Strokes who are abysmal or BRMC who are good) or albums "Screamadelica" lives up to the hype so search for reviews of it or articles about the best albums of the 1990's on the net. "Vanishing Point" and "XTRMNTR" are great but are less varied and the music and the lyrics are much more hard-edged.

Next up there's The Beta Band whose music is really difficult to describe because they are influenced by so many different types of music (folk, pop, blues, ambient, hip-hop, house, modern R&B). If you haven't got any of their stuff I recommend starting with "The Three E.P.'s".

Gomez are heavily influenced by the blues but they do experiment with different instruments and styles. However, they don't usually stray too far from the blues and they are prone to releasing jams that go on for far too long and neat little songs that you wish would go on for longer so I strongly advise listening to their stuff before you consider buying.

The only other relatively recent bands or artists that are in the same ball park are Radiohead, Bjork and Massive Attack but they sound even less like New Order so I'm probably leading you in completely the wrong direction. I'm sure someone else will have some better ideas.

Radiohead are at once the most obvious and yet most unlikely 'similar artists', but I think you'll find most NO fans have such a diverse collection of music that no one artist will stand out for comparison. That said, here's my picks for what to look for

1.Radiohead--Kid A: The most New Order-ish album they've put out

2. Belle and Sebastian--Electronic Renaissance (off debut lp), Le Pastie de Le Bourgiose (3..6..9 Seconds of Light EP)

3. BRMC (Mre JD than NO, but worth checking out)

The Faint, they are a great band, and listening to them, I can see that they had to have been influenced by The Order! The don't sound like The Order, but they have some very catchy tunes! :) Check them out if you can!

"The Alpine Stars"! Sound very much like New Order. It's kinda synth-pop with the use of guitars and "Barneylike"-vocals.

Do BRMC sound anything like Joy Division ? I've never heard them before but I read an interview where they said that they are heavily influenced by Joy Division and really big fans ....

hi...brendan....... I'm been a very very big JAMC fan for a long time....so I was excited to hear about BRMC ( by the way, they r signing records at Red Eye Sydney, tomorrow - Monday ) ....bought the CD straight away but alas!!!!..BRMC is still a bit pale compared with Pychocandy-period JAMC......

Also...to Rocket MICK...hey, you really gotta check out Belle & Sebastian ( I see them as a soft folky band with Morrissey's wit and Velvet's melody....)...and catch them before they are no more because everyone's gone ( i.e. Stuart David & now, Isobel...)

most of the bands mentioned are more guitar/rock based, but there's alot of really cool electronic bands completly influnenced by new order, depeche mode etc. hers a list of my favorites: 1.endora: my favorite:) www.endpop.com local chicago band, not signed to a label, but have a strong following and opened for anything box and book of love at house of blues. category: synth-pop with ebm. very edgy. mp3's @ www.mp3.com/endora

most of these bands are a mix of goth/industrial/new wave and synth pop but and they all have been influenced by new order. they dont try to rip off the classic 80's sound, they progress it for a new generation of music fans. sorry this post is so damn long! hope it helps. kamar
