Peter Hook goes All Out for GMG Radio Monday, 09 March 2009 Yesterday saw the first in a new series of documentaries on the GMG Radio network delving into the history of some of the country’s most iconic and revolutionary record labels.

Yesterday saw the first in a new series of documentaries on the GMG Radio network delving into the history of some of the country’s most iconic and revolutionary record labels. Hook in action Produced by Manchester’s All Out Productions, the first ‘Legendary Record Labels’ looked into ‘The Legacy of Factory Records’ in the company of narrator Peter Hook.

Hook, known for his wildman bass antics with bands such as the seminal Joy Division and New Order, took on presenting duties to help guide listeners through Manchester’s music landscape, from the late 70s through to Madchester.

Along the way this took in interviews with Gaz Whelan of The Happy Mondays, Tim Booth from James and Clint Boon of The Inspiral Carpets.

Producer Sam Gregory said of the show: “Peter's first hand experiences of the label and his ongoing involvement with the Hacienda brand makes him the perfect presenter for this documentary.

“Peter was great to work with - full of both humorous and thought provoking stories and revealing insights, and his onsite conversations with former Factory alumni such as Durutti Column's Bruce Mitchell and Hacienda manager Leroy Richardson provide a unique insight into the attitude and vibe of the label."

The show was the first in an eight part series and was broadcast across the Smooth Radio network and Real Radio Wales and Yorkshire.
