Doves Tribute Concert to Rob Gretton (Warm-up band did Tempatation Cover)

Went to the Doves concert last night, and they did damn good concert.

The warm-up, warm-up band called Pop Nior did a Cover of Temptation (for a tribute to Rob), as I must say it was pretty darn good (except that the bassist took a break from actually playing Hooky's part to sing, so the bass parts were recorded) The singer actually sung it better than Bernard live Drummer did good, but can't compare to Steve.

the official warm-up band was terrible, but didn't catch their name.

For the Doves, I was expecting some other song tribute, but only thing they did was mention that they were dedicating the concert to Rob. Only beef I had is that there were a disproportionate amount of songs from Last Broadcast (their worst album) and only one from Lost Souls. But they were spot on. The drummer is about amazing... I thought they had gone to a drum machine for parts when i listened to the cds, didn't realize it was actually the drummer banging out those notes. Fucking AMAZING.

I saw Doves at the Wiltern last night as well, but missed the opening bands (were there 2 warm-up bands?). Doves were really good. Loved Snowden. I don't think they played Space Face though, which I was hopeful for.

Will be seeing them at the Fillbore tomorrow night...I'll look out for anything special like that...especially considering it'll be May 18th.

Yeah there were two warmup bands. the first one sounded like a mix of White Stripes, Strokes and Hot Hot Heat. Not bad.

The second band was hideous. They sounded like a knock off of the Killers... but no where as good. I can barely remember anything about them. They should mix the two bands around. Or just stick the second band back on the plane and save everyone from their racket.

Seen it a couple of times now, but Here It Comes with all the Wigan Casino northern soul footage on the screen behind is an absolute treat.

err i think ally was saying no way is it the worst doves album & i'd agree, in fact i;d say it was comfortably their best by a country mile (that the phrase you were looking for?)

yea i also think last broadcast is the best doves album have to agree with what someone said on here about 'here it comes' played to the wigan casino footage,excellent

The individual songs on Broadcast are excellent, but put together, the same pounding does give a headache after awhile. It makes it their weakest album.

It's a shit album but the individual songs are excellent and this is due to err, running order?

no. most of the songs have the same pounding beat, so individually it works, but after awhile it just gets old. The songs are best played with the entire discography on random, then the songs standup well. it makes it their weakest album.

so which in your opinion is the weakest album? and why? you must have a better reason than me?

by the way, anyone else that went to a doves show, were there shirts? I didn't see any, I might have missed the table as I came early and left late...

The Last Broadcast is bloody brilliant.

They played a smashing concert Monday night at the Fillmore; seemed to be in very high spirits. I was dead center right in front of the stage (two people in front of me) and it sounded great. Sounds like a good thing I missed the opener, though. I didn't catch any references to Ian, but we did finally watch the Joy Division documentary last night and it was a bit eerie when I suddenly realized the date part way through. (Great doc, and I'm looking forward to digging through all the extra interview footage - a lot of raw honesty on display.)

There were t-shirts at the show, and a free poster afterwards.

(Oh, and that was my first time seeing the video for Black and White Town - good stuff.)

I think I have everything Doves (as Doves) have released.

Good to see amazing acts giving tribute to New Order.

Absolutely. My wife and I were transfixed at the Coventry warm up gig, it just makes the song make perfect sense.
