Update on Bad Lieutenant From Digital Spy Website

I remember an article a few months ago stating that Steve and Alex James were not really a member, but only played in a track or two. Couldn't find it, does anyone remember such thing?

It was actually a message from New Order PR posted in this forum http://www.neworderonline.com/Forums/MessageList.aspx?ThreadID=45732. Steve and Alex were 'additional musician'.

Which makes me wonder. Did the press receive the same message? If so I see two options:

1. some journalist totally misinterpreted Steve's role in BL and then others just copy/pasted this first mistake.

2. Steve (or Bernard) changed his mind and is now a real member of the new band.

This is kind of irrelevant, I know, but I hate to see the press giving wrong information.

I agree that they're both twats (for this is why we love them so!) but I'm more of the opinion that that they both probably have extremely petty grievances against one another and neither of them will admit it.

I see it clearly. Barney and Hooky were in a pub, when shoe-size-equations were brought up. An arguement ensued, bringing about both of 'em to whip 'em out onto the bartop. Hooky's was bigger, so Barney lost a fiver. However, in later days, Barney's been going around saying that he won the contest and Hooky's been pissed off ever since.

Does that sound about right?

It's hard to make success again when you're in your early 50's. But change the name of the band was the right decision, there's no NO without Gillian and Hooky.

The link is to the press release that i and many others on the mailing list recieved and is exactly the same on all the main 3 New Order sites. The press release was sent to the 3 sites on the same day and no doubt countless others on the mailing list.

The info was also posted on the same day by nicos,david and myself on each of our sites.

This is the info we ALL have at present.

Hopefully,very soon, we will get some promo copies of the album and their accompanying press releases for futher info,but,alas,till then, it is a waiting game.

Im sure theres both sides to this story. It just seems a shame to me, the way New Order ended and how a 35 odd year friendship collapsed. I always got the impression Peter was the friendly, open one and Barney the closed book and difficult.

I guess were all human. While the members of say REM, Depeche Mode and U2 (seem to) remain great friends after decades of being in succesful bands theres always bands that have great animnosity between members (The Beatles and Guns N Roses spring to mind).

As ex-New Order members are now in their fifties I would have thought they would be more mature and aware of each others habits/traits now. But then no one but those involved really know the real issues, so Im not judging in any way.

The other sad thing is does this mean playing New Order songs are off limits for any of these offshoot bands? Obviously they wont be the same without the element of the missing member(s).

I just hope it doesnt turn into one long slanging off match. I mean, Hooky and Barney are bound to cross paths as they pursue their chosen paths.

It's just very sad.

It's been sad since Hooky announced that Buenos Aires was the end of the line and that NO were no more. There was the aftermath of Barney and Steve denying this as Hooky insisted it was the case before Barney eventually admitted it and said Bad Lieutenant were on the horizon.

Now the wide-of-the-mark New Order-to-reform bollocks is being promulgated by the likes of Channel 4 Teletext as gospel truth. I kid you not! As Barney, Phil and apparently Steve are involved, they are actually saying that Alex thingy has replaced Hooky and New Order live again!

I had to text them to try to set the record straight. Let's see if they publish it.

I still don't know what it was that made Hooky leave but I think it's very sad that Barney has a bitter 'fuck him' attitude. They were mates for so long, creating some sublime music that will live forever and it's just grim that things are like this.

I bet people are taking this line waaaay too seriously. It's just his sense of humor to say something like that. I seriously doubt he said it with a straight face.

I loved Get Ready and WFTSC so obviously I had my hopes up for another album but honestly, maybe it's for the best to keep things fresh and exciting - I'm looking forward to Bad Lieutenant and Freebass.

Maybe one day we'll see a Freebase single featuring the Bernard Sumner remix, or a Bad Liutenant song featuring Peter Hook.

Doubtful, as they do seem far too stubborn. But don't forget the gap between Republic and Get Ready.

All fights require time to cool down before civility kicks in again.

As much as I hate to say this as well, I can't see BL or FB catching on nearly as well as JD, NO, or even their other side projects.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I've liked what I've heard thus far, just a hunch. :(

I'd be happier if the record company (or whoever) would sort themselves out and somehow release the unreleased tracks from the WFTSC era. (If it's possible...)

You can't really find out what's going on just by reading articles...all I know is that they are involved in separate projects and that Barney hasn't really spoken to Hooky.

He guested on some tracks on the album, I don't think he'll be in the live band. He has his own band right now in case anyone hadn't noticed.

This press 'story' and the way it has proliferated is an example of how 'journalists' work these days and the redundancy of news in general. Bernard does one little interview (for the Mojo awards wasn't it?) and this elaborated story is replicated everywhere word for word, despite the fact that there are important factual errors.
