SUMNER: 'NEW ORDER WAS NO FUN"

Rocker BERNARD SUMNER has nailed the coffin shut on his former band NEW ORDER, revealing he never had much fun recording with PETER HOOK.

The group split in 2007 but fans continue to hope Hook and Sumner will put aside their differences and work together again soon - something the frontman insists will never happen.

And, recording with new band Bad Lieutenant, Sumner admits he has finally come to realise how much fun he can have in a studio.

He tells Britain's Mojo magazine, "When I make music these days, I want it to be fun, nice, enjoyable and I find those conditions with this new band.

"This new album is really important for me. It'll either work - people will like it - or I'll stop making music. I don't want to make music as part of New Order."

Sigh ... the idea of Sumner no longer making music is a depressing thought.

So the changes of New Order working again in the future are about zero.

Sounds like Barney's the ex-wife... trying desperately to show off that he's soooooo much better off without the other... and having sooo much FUN!

Good lord sounds like he's picked up a set of meat curtains.

Its not often i feel compelled to post on here these days but from what ive heard so far of bad lootenunt its utter shite. So barney if we dont like it, buy it ect you would rather call it a day. based on the recent output ive heard, its a day id pray for. Go on you daft fat cunt, fuck off on your yacht and sail off into the sunset instead of boring us all shitless with your tired melancholic whitterings. like most rock/pop stars you just couldnt resist shitting in your own hands and rubbing it on your face and then wonder why no-one wants to kiss you. If rob could hear u now. ffs.

wahey!.. a classic Sunday morning post-pub post.

I've not heard any BL meself apart from that acoustic thing, so will not judge til then.

I thought Hooky was winning on the wittering thing. This latest thing is surely a typical bit of media hype prior to a release of an album. Hopefully Hooky will follow suit shortly and also announce a release date, and not spout out any more crap. I'd rather the both of them just shut up and let the music do the talking. A proper duel. The best will out I'm sure, or they will both sink like stones (more likely).

Otherwise, I'm, getting a bit bored with all their one-upmanship. FFS they aren't the fucking Libertines. They are in their fifties.

I don't recall half as much press bitching when Revenge/Electronic/Monaco were going head to head in the release date stakes "back in the day". I do remember one NME article with Bernard noting that Monaco sounded like him (which at the time was a fair point) but there wasn't really that many of the sarcy comments then than there is now. Post-98 reformation even Hooky managed a compliment or two for some of Electronic's less poppy material and Bernard selected the best known Monaco track (Wdywfm?) as one of his favourites for a "virtual" mixtape in Q Magazine.

Although he did note "Hooky probably had alot of help with this one" :uhoh:

Both bands label advances obviously went on substantially-sized handbags then.

Growing old disgracefully

It sucks to see your heroes grow old. It also sucks to know that they are letting disputes play out publicly, and that they are behaving like angry grandpas.

But, I agree that if N.O. was no fun, there is no point in continuing. Being around someone who gets you down is draining.

Steve is (again) the wisest of them all by not saying anything bitchy about New Order, although he participates in BL AND is still befriended with Hooky.

One thing that I hate about 'fans' claiming their fave musicians should 'call it a day' or 'quit' or 'become a recluse' if they haven't made anything that sells or is just as good as (insert any New Order album from the 1980s or maybe early 1990s).

Of course, if the work they put out is completely horrible that even as a fan you can't stand to listen to...then you might not buy it. (We all have a right to do that.)

But then again, I doubt that BL or Freebass are out there to be the richest band in the world or anything. Most of the members in both projects have already made enough money in their bands (or former bands)...so I doubt they're in it for the money. Also, I doubt they're trying to be a new New Order or Joy Division...I just think they're a bunch of middle aged people (excluding Jake and Phil, as they're younger) trying to make music with the people they like (or can bear to work with:confused2: ).

As for bitchy comments in the press...who cares? Some of those comments may have been made by when the said person was in a bad mood.

Sorry for my long rant.

This is one of the most obnoxious things I've ever read on the Internet anywhere. Based on hearing a live acoustic version of one song on tv that was actually quite good. Oh, those fucking rock / pop stars, what a bunch of assholes...:confused2:

I think it's probably just a bit of "journalistic license" i.e made up to get a story. He doesn't seem too unhappy about it in the press kit video:

I think he misses the drinking a lot more than hooky, a drunk working with a dry drunk is going to bit uncomfortable for both parties.

They'll be back.

It makes me sad reading those comments. Surely Barney & hooky were mates at some point? Maybe things have been sour for many years, but I can't believe he's never had fun before.
