Lets keep Hooky on the top of this list. Last I checked he was number two.
NME Poll - Greatest Bass Player of All Time

Les Claypool only has a 4.67??? As if any of the other bass players on that list could play like him, NME is full of crap. I love Hooky and all, but there is no better bass player than Les... somehow Paul McCartney has 7.02? Seems people are voting for favorite song rather than actual bass playing...

What the hell is the difference between Christ Novoselic - Nirvana (#5) and Krist Novoselic - Nirvana (#19)?
Haha, Rush is currently taking # 1.
I don't have much faith in these polls, the top spots seem to come out of nowhere.
The Greatest Indie Albums poll had the Cure in the top 2 spots. ![]()
That has got to be the worst ever interface for voting, utter crap, takes yonks!!
And WTF!!! best bass line true faith! there's hardly any hooky on it!
It's a shame that The Joe Jackson Band's bass player Graham Maby isn't in this list. I guess that's the British media for you...
Geddy Lee has a HUGE lead. Any explanation? Some Rush dork found a way to cheat?
Surprised that Geddy Lee has such fans in the UK, but i was also surprised to find out that they sell Coors Light over there also.

ones indie, the other mainstream

There is something not right there. The very few Rush fans in the UK wouldn't read the NME anyway. They would read 'the Observer' whilst wondering when the nurse is coming around with the pills.
How is his best bass line fookin' 'True Faith'??!! Does anyone at NME have a fookin' clue? ![]()
& where the fook is Will Heggie from the Cocteaus'/Lowlife,Stephen Mallinder from the Cabs or Dojo from ACR? He could kick Mark Kings' arse anyday ![]()
they should rename these sort of polls "most popular [insert thing being polled here] of the moment"

Or Person with the most patient fans to navigate through our completely unfit for use website. What's wrong with just a long list and a radio button so you can only select one, we don't need to know what they have played, if you think they are the best then surely you know what they have played!

Agreed, these days the NME site is just a car crash of badly written gossip articles and innumerable animated advertisements constantly vying for your attention. Rule number one of web design is you should make your site as universally compatible to as many users as possible but they seem to have gone to the other extreme with high-end computers struggling to find the CPU power to run all those bloody pointless Flash ads.
As for the poll, I thought Q Magazine had this sort of lazy muso journalism covered? 100 Greatest Band's Conservatories EVER etc. Tossers.
They're about to get a new editor I hear; if she's got a shred of musical interest hopefully we'll see some restoration to the mid to late 90s-era where (while it was still a rag) at least you got the odd readable article here and there.

I hear this too.
What the fuck do women know about music? Or writing?
Get the fucking kettle on, love, the men are off to a gig.

Two words:

Whiley.
Best they could come up with.

Don't forget Lauren Laverne
I don't understand how Geddy Lee has such a HUGE lead. My high school buddy would be thrilled, but it leaves me scratching my head.
Must be a lot of Canadians voting on this thing.
I don't understand Rush's lead either. Not only does he have the lead, he has A HUGE LEAD. Something definately bullshitty about that, especially as 'passionate Rush fan' and 'NME reader' are demographically worlds apart.
I agree 100% with Geddy Lee being on top... Like or dislike Rush, the guy is fookin' brilliant. I love Hooky, but come on.
