Peter Hook has ruled out the possibility of New Order reuniting.

Speaking to The Quietus, he revealed that it was unlikely he and former bandmate Bernard Sumner would be able to repair their fractured relationship after New Order split up two years ago.

"There is no current situation [with New Order]", he said. "We split up two years ago. For a while Bernard seemed to be a bit confused about that but now, from what I gather, he's accepted it.

"In my mind, Bernard spilt us up in '92 when he went off with Johnny Marr, and I split us up this time. All we have to wait for is when we get back together is hopefully for Stephen to split us up and we’ll all be even."

He added: "I think there would have to be a terrible lot of blood letting. It’s been very... it's been the messiest divorce I’ve ever had, let’s put it that way."

Hook also commented on the fact that his new band, Freebass, are set to go head to head with Bad Lieutenant, the group started by the remainding members of New Order.

"It’s a very strange position to be in, especially with the fact that we’ve both got records coming out together at the same time", he said.

"It’s very weird. But it’s exciting. It’s a bit like a fat version of Blur and Oasis."

Check The Quietus next week for the full interview: Freebase, Joy Division, Manchester, and more New Order.

Strange comparison....:read:

Such a shame for there to still be so much ill-feeling, but it definitely adds more drama to the new album releases (intentional?).

The real drama will be if they decide to have gigs on the same night- a poor business decision IMO. It'll be like divorced parents having competing birthday parties for their kid. Mom's getting a pony, dad's getting a clown...which will you choose? Guess that depends on how you feel about clowns. I'm staying tuned- it's as good as reality TV- and as uplifting.

I'd go Bernard I think.

It was all almost 'civil' then he chucked in the word 'fat'.

Personally, if a head to head came up, I'd probably pick Barney, cos he didn't have a three year head start.

I'd hope it didn't come to that, and we could see them on separate occasions, but I feel Hooky is upset cos Barney has stole a march (i.e. just got on with it) and Hooky has reacted like a wounded lion and decided to get his lazy arse into gear, and throw a spanner in the works.

It will all be down to the music in the end, but if this splitting of the consensus carries on, they will be playing pubs in Chorlton before the end of next year.

If its down to songwriting, then perhaps Hooky needs a three year head start, or a songwriter. Barney just needs a talented bassist who plays bass like a guitar, across his knees, whilst growling occasionally at the tiny 'aged' but eternally devoted crowd.

Eh? What's Hooky saying here?

Bad Lootenant have a single out next month, with an album immediately following.

Is there summat we should know about Freebass? :skeptic:

He still gives good quote, gawd bless him! Love that the Hooky monster is still chippy about Barney running off into the sunset hand-in-hand with Johnny Marr way back when. Peter should get together with Mozzer to have right old bitch about what a talentless fat cheating bastard Barney is!

I think they should settle the whole thing with a bout of pro-celebrity wrestling. It couldn't be any more undignified, surely??!?

What a tease.

Seems a fairly innocuous interview to me... no real nastiness bar a bit of piss taking at the expense of Barney. Implying Steve should initiate a third breakup made me chuckle. As Fradder's said it's good to see he can still come up with a good sound bite or two.

Er, so are we about to get some Freebass release dates then?? :smoking:

I don't know, this is the first time I've seen hooky actually take responsibility on the breakup... as both held firm, pointing fingers at the other's camp. This is movement in the right direction for a reforming in August 2017:thumb:

Well, I don't know about you, but I reckon somebody at the NME browsed this site today...

Both this story and the Kraftwerk 8-CD remastered set both make their "News" story today...

I tell ya, they're on the ball...!

Ok, they don't want to do stuff together anymore, but do they have to be so bitter?

Why can't these two old buddies just accept that they have differences, and say "let's give this a rest", and just see what happens in the future.

Is it really necessary to say "I will NEVER do this again", "we're finished", etc etc

What's the point, really?

It's great PR innit?

Like two boxers pre-fight flaming...trying to flog ring side seats.

All part of the game.

After reading this article there is a small chance of hope that NO will do something in the future.

You're behind the times pal. Haven't you heard, they've got a whole album's worth of tracks lined up to follow WFTSC straight away?!

No kiddin'. Apparently they don't want to fook around for years. They loved recording WFTSC and want to get another album out as soon as possible to maintain the momentum. They love playing together, because they no longer have to worry about a record company or a nightclub or a dry bar. It's all about the music. They're like a family. They fell out and now they're back together and "very much in love."

It's just another Jay-Z/Nas kinda thing.

I wish they'd just leave it alone. It's getting really boring! We all know how bitter Hooky is but can't he talk about something else please?

BL .v. Freebase: I favour the third way i.e not being either record!

Did I read that correctly? Freebass haven't actually got a record contract and will have to release it on myspace?

WOW!! I think it's been about 4 years since I've been on here...Did I miss anything?? LOL

How many albums have they put out?? LOL Tours?? LOL

What a relationship they have huh??

Not sure on that. Myspace Bio says "Type of Label = Major".

But you speak like not having a record contract is a bad thing.....

NOT being signed to either of the four majors is a definite advantage these days. They suck the life out of everything and restrict everything and it's high time bands went elsewhere.

Their days are numbered.
