I worked for a major label for over four years as a field marketing rep. The label had no regard for its artists or for developing talent, all they cared about was how much a record sold. If a band with a certain sound got popular, they would sign ten crap bands that sounded the same and if nothing sold, drop all of them.
Oh, and they laid of myself and the majority of my staff without any sort ot forwarning, or severance pay.
Fuck 'em.
The internet and new technology makes it so much easier for an artist to get their music heard and sold.
I am an uber geek in Ohio with no label or management of any kind, or band really, I am a one man band.
I sell lots and lots of copies of my first record and new single to people all over the US and in Europe thru the internet, and I don't even have my stuff on Itunes yet.
Point being, the game is changing, and the majors can go to hell. Soon no one will need them.
