Since some dumbass yank called trainers SNEEKERS then lets have the debate on who make the best trainers.

Lord 's list:

K-Swiss - The wankiest of the wank,how ever do they sell these SHITE trainers?

New Balance - Middle aged yank fodder.

Kappa - italian ,sums it up well.

Fila - had a resurgence in the late 80's,shite trainers but top notch trackie tops!

Lacoste - shite,apart from them court star wannabies )i own a pair actually)

Reebok - chavvy as fook!

Puma - dogwank! (apart from the clyde series)

umbro - WANK!

la gear - ladies trainers natch

avia - do yhey still exist?

Sergio tacchini - wank

I've probably missed a few,but,last but not least - NIKE.......

Apart from when they introduced the x or cross trainer and a few exceptions,notably omega flame , cirrus and rio,and possibly tiempo turf,plus a few of the air models,no nike trainers are worth spunking any cash over,they just DONT do it for me.

Spose the yanks will mention that the jordan basketball trainers are one of the best sellers of all time...

AND FINALLY ONTO THE DADDY OF THEM ALL

Admittedly German but in my eyes the best trainer on the market today.

I have worn ADIDAS since i was able to afford them, must have had 30 odd pair of shelltoes, a few Campus and not forgetting the classic Stan Smith series,in fact got misel another pair TODAY.

Was in Berlin this time last year and the main Adidas shop was Behind our hotel,came back out with 6 pairs of trainers about £300 lighter!

I kind of like the new porsche designed ones,pity it says porsche all over them.

By the way,( SHUG) Adidas Samba are the epitome of chavness,only the most discerning council estate resident would EVER wear such an abomination!

Anyway thats the end of lord 's ramblings,would be nice to hear what the crazy ass yanks have to say....

"Trainers" sound like you're supposed to be training for something, and as far as I can tell, most of you guys here (New Order included) don't run or exercise, are probably overweight and undertall. I'd be fine with SNEAKERS being called trainers if I knew there was marathon or half-marathon involved somewhere.

Here's my partial list of faves:

1. Onitsuka Tiger (manufactured by ASICS): Onitsuka Tiger. Probably the coolest ones are the pair that Uma Thurman was sporting in Kill Bill, pt 1 (the yellow with black stripes, an homage to Bruce Lee), which were custom painted, but not actually available to the public.

2. PF Flyers: PF Flyers

3. Converse Chuck Taylor - the all-time classic American sneaker, although apparently now mostly manufactured in South America: Chuck Taylors

4. Converse Jack Purcell - I'm partial to the John Varvatos redesign of this: Jack Purcells

Good for you. I too cycle, but 3x a week, weight train, and avoid grease-based foods. It gets me going each day to put on my sneakers and ride my Segway to work.

Must be an East Coast thing, we don't call them trainers or sneekers here (I haven't heard sneekers said since the early 80s, hearing it makes me chuckle).

We call them by what they are intended for; i.e. basketball shoes, running shoes, skate shoes, etc.
But most of the time we just call them by the brand name, Converse (connies), Vans, Addias, etc.

I'm not one for any of these except if I'm doing the sport, as I do own running shoes (but only wear them when I go run). Prefer Doc Martins or Sketchers for my shoes... this is as close as I get to yer trainers:

Trainers makes more sense than sneakers, so trainers it should be. Older people in the USA still call them sneakers, but they will die someday.

The term cross trainer has been used for all purpose sneakers, er, trainers ...so it's a start.

It's funny how Converse basketball shoes have become so common now in the USA, no mainstream person would have been caught dead in them in the 80s, they just wore those ugly Nikes and other white shoes. I remember they were considered somewhat cool in Europe, they sold them at twice the price in western Europe in the early 90s. What do they call Chucks in England? Trainers also?

Trainers is the generic term for, well, trainers.

Something you wear to play sports in should have a specific name - ie running/golf/gym shoes or rugby/football/cricket boots.

Sneakers should only be worn when actually sneaking, either upstairs to bed after a heavy night or when about to commit a rape.

you can get yellow & black ones now btw. have been able to since the film came out, saw a pair the other day.
