When and how did you get into New Order?

For me it was about 4 months ago. My sister is a fan of The Cure and one day she was looking on this web site that listed songs that sound like Cure songs. Blue Monday was one of them so we looked it up on YouTube. At that point I wasn't thinking much of it. A month or two later a friend told me about Pandora, an online radio ...Blue Monday came on and so I said I like it so they played more. Then came The Perfect Kiss, Age Of Consent, 1963 and lots more.

How and when did you get into New Order?

Seeing Fine Time on TOTP and 1990 World Cup was my first introduction.... a little too young to really appreciate it all then.

Regret was the real deal though and being a bit older turned me into fully fledged Order fan.

In Between Days sooooo sounds like Dreams Never End! The Walk and Blue Monday came out around the same time so... She says All The Way sounds like Just Like Heaven...

In September 1987, I heard True Faith on the jukebox in the 6th form common room and it fair blew me away.

I bought Substance, then the rest of the NO albums and then the JD albums.

Lost a lot of my rarities collection in a spectacular divorce in 2003 but RM KiNdLy provided a lot of MP3s by way of compensation. ToP mAn.

Was originally on the Ceremony email-list, then found Music4Pleasure, then WiM and finally NOOL, the place to be.

Same again, 1987, i was 12, i knew of blue monday, heard true faith and bought substance on tape. it didn't leave my walkman for months.

First heard the substance blt version on the radio,pestered mate to buy it on cassette as i was on the dole (unemployed),we played blt over and over again,we then decided to play the rest of the album and i fookin loved it!

Got my giro cheque (welfare cheque) the next week and BLEW THE FOOKIN LOT ON THE NEW ORDER BACK CATALOGUE!

Same mate who i pestered to buy the album gave me a promo copy of get ready 3 weeks before it was released,until that day i had never even heard of,nor did not know what a promo was.

Fast forward a few years and i know have one of the most compreshensive New Order collections in the world!

The site is rather basic as it is a free site,oneday i hope to have my own "proper" site.

When i heard Sink Or Swim by Bad Lieutenant, last night. What a fantastic, timeless classic of a tune, i thought and decided to track down Bernard's previous bands.

Like some of the older types around,having been into joy divison first i then got new order when they arrived. must say ive always been much much more into the new order stuff than JD though

I remember first hearing New Order when I was 7. They played Regret on the radio and the video for it briefly on MTV, but didn't hear 'em again till 2005 when the Krafty single was released. Ended up buying the Sirens' album first and liking it, then buying the Singles compilation, and then the studio albums. Been listening to 'em ever since. Just wish they hadn't broke up. The one band I wish I could see in concert.

Got into Neworder when I was a younster of 12 in 87 when True Faith came out, my Uncle John was and still is a massive fan. So I blame it all on him. First gig was Birmingham 89, not looked back since.

It was True Faith for me, too. Same age. I was in 8th grade and heard it on the radio one afternoon after school. It was like nothing I'd ever heard before. Some time after that, I heard BLT and Blue Monday on a special late-night Saturday dance show called the Hot Mix. The station was out of Orlando, Florida. Fan ever since...

It was around 1986. I always heard Bizarre Love Triangle on the radio, but they never mentioned who the band was or the track title. A cousin of a cousin had the Power, Corruption & Lies & Substance cassettes and that's when I finally knew who this band was. They are still my favorite. I kick myself for not going to see them play in Houston, TX at Astroworld back in 1987. I was at the park, but we were too busy riding the rides. Damn...

I haven't been that close to them since.

Stumbled into the WOMAD festival aged 15 in 85 by chance. Waited for ages for some African band to finish to hear the headline act. New Order finally came on. I was hooked from that moment, loved them ever since.

FEP 313 Temptation.

It was such an amazing EP for someone stuck in small town Florida. I could never remember the title to the song and always thought it was called "Everythings Gone Green". Then it seemed like evry John Hughes movie had a New Order song in it (along with OMD). I thought "1963" was an OMD song at first.

But before all that I had heard "Love Will Tear US Apart". I didn't know the connection between the two until my younger brother told me about it.

BTW I have my copies of FEP 313 and Power,Corruption an Lies hanging in my youngest son's bedroom.

When I first got into New Order, they could do no wrong. It was 1988 and I think by pure luck I had hit it just right. I'd missed Movement (which I still don't likè and am surprised that it has a small but fanatical fan base here), and when Blue Monday 1988 came on the radio I just thought what was that?! I know a lot of the people here don't rate it, but at the time I thought it was from another planet.

I then had the pleasure of investigating their back catalogue which was probably the best part for me. Due to Factory's idiosyncracies it meant slapping all the way to Tower Records in Oxford Street on a Saturday and taking a flyer on one of their old records based purely on a one line passing comment in the NME or just because I liked the artwork :-) Tower Records was also the only place that sold Viz in London back then too. They don't make 'em like that anymore...

Anyway, the point being that like the rest of you, I thought New Order were just head and shoulders above anyone else. But although there are a thousand reasons to love them (Tony Wilson, the mental videos, FAC numbers, the Hac etc) the thing that really set them apart for me were the 12" remixes.

I'd hear a new single or know it was coming out and I'd think that's a really good one I bet the 12" is going to be unbelievable!

It always was. I've had to buy 4 or 5 copies of Substance over the years as I wore the tapes out in various car stereos. They always seemed to save something special for the 12". Even something like Fine Time which was too short to really justify the format redeemed itself by coming on the thickest vinyl I've ever seen! I know that's not the point, but with New Order it was the whole point :-)

When I played the Round & Round 12" for the first time I thought they'd put the wrong record in the sleeve at the shop...where had those first 4 minutes been hiding? Who else would be so obtuse to put that much work into something so good that they knew so few people would hear?

Even the World In Motion 12" wasn't a total train wreck.

1985 i was 12,we got a new drama teacher at school and she was straight out of uni and she used to make us warm up at the start of the lesson by making us jump up and down to subculture,i asked her what the song was and she taped low life for me and that was me hooked,she put unknown pleasures on the other side and i wasn't too impressed with that i'm sorry to say

When I was 12, I heard the frogs on Perfect kiss and thought it was AWESOME! So I stole my sister's tape (a copy she recieved from her boyfriend at the time) that night and played the entire album over and over... I finally returned it to her 7 years later, after I bought a copy on cd.

A few years ago there was a slot on VH2 called the 'Indie 500'. In the top 50 inevitably where songs by Stone Roses, Suede, Depeche , JD etc all of which I consumed voraciously. Then I saw the video for Blue Monday 88, didnt much care for it, but was surprised to see it was the same individuals who performed in that dingy warehouse.

A few weeks later on BBC R2, Jeremy Vine played a track which sort of sounded like a mix of Pet Shop Boys and the Lightning Seeds. It turned out to be 'True Faith' and within the space of a year I had consumed the entire back catalogue.

Back in 2005 (when I was like, 16) I heard a cover of BLT on a Dance Dance Revolution game... I eventually got around to downloading the original, and I was blown away. Eventually I downloaded True Faith, and after being equally blown away by that song, I decided to buy Sirens Call, and I've been hooked ever since.
