Is the original Fanin-Latour painting on display in the National Gallery London ? Has anyone seen it?
Not that im particually interested in paintings on the whole! but i find this one of particular interest of course :)

I vaguely remember Tony Wilson saying that when it was photographed for the cover of PCL, the painting was on loan to a gallery in some castle in middle England.
They had to get permission to go to photograph it. Don't know if that was permanent loan, or if its been returned to The National Gallery, but I could check for you.
Didn't see it last time I was at the National...
I went to The National Gallery in about 1984 with school...and it was there then. I bought a postcard of it. Couldn't tell you whether it's still on display now, though!
The painting is still here in the UK and was painted by Latour whilst staying in England (Sumbury?) during the summer/autumn of 1864. He gifted the still life to his host Mrs Edwin Edwards who then loaned it to the National Gallery during the early 1900s.
