Why hasn't new order or joy division been inducted into the RR HF? The 2 bands are influences on many of the new bands that are around in their own seperate way. They should each recieve an award for the impact that they have made in music, culture, and video. Is there any way we can start a petition to get both as hall of famers? They deserve this honor as much or more than recent past inducties. U2 and REM are already members, joy division and new order need to hold their place w/them. Techno, electronic, new wave, goth, these are areas the RRHF has overlooked, and it is time for us to get their attention.

Er, my impression was that they had been inducted - particularly given that myself and a significant number of other folk round here were present to watch it happen. We were several football pitches away, mind, but we made our presence felt.
If you mean said 'Hall of Fame' in the United States, however....well, y'know, fuck off.
a) they are not well known in the redneck USA, and New Order is often considered gay disco by the old classic rock types. JD/NO would need critic support like The Stooges and Velvet Underground get, and even then both those bands are barely considered. Joy Division might be considered cool enough, but then alot of those old people have not heard of them.
b) the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is stupid in concept. Call it museum of musical culture maybe, other than that it is all just an industry hand job to popular white rock bands.
What's ironic is that if you check the Rock Hall's blog (don't bother), the latest post is by the Hall's "Director of Education," who writes about a college course he leads called Electro Pop: The History of Popular Electronic Music.

I was listening to a local radio station and the morning deejays got onto this topic. They had an observation from Paul Stanley of KISS.
He said that The Rock Hall was started by Ahmet Ertegun and other music industry insiders as their own private club for people that they liked. Stanley said he would not refuse an invite to join the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame but that it was not that great an honor.
The two bands that the deejays mentioned as oversights were Kraftwerk and Joy Division. They have never even been nominated.
A band doesn't need to be acknowledged by these Hall of Fame things to be great. Besides, I think JD/NO weren't big enough in the US for that.
There is actually a pretty nice New Order/Joy Division exhibit in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
It's in a glass case that's about 8 feet tall four feet wide. It features Bernard Sumner's handwritten lyrics to Blue Monday (which are quite different from the finished lyrics and have a strong anti-war message as well as military references). It also has Bernard Sumner's lyrics for Regret ( I think its Regret), one of Peter Hooks bass guitars, lots of pictures, set lists, concert stubs, and gig posters, and several other cool items, and a handwritten letter from Peter Hook.
It's not a huge exhibit, but it is there. I don't think NOJD have been officially inducted into the Rock Hall though. I was surprised when I saw the exhibit.
On another note....New Order and Joy Division are a lot more popular here in the states than people here seem to think. At least in the cities I have been to.
I am in Cleveland quite a bit, next time I am go the Rock Hall, I will try to sneak some cell phone pics of the exhibit, if it is still up (exhibits are rotated, as with any museum).

I was about to say, even with my short-term memory usually quite fuct I'd remembered something about a Hall of Fame somewhere down the line.
As for the US thang, they're nowhere near big enough in the US, shirley?

A group like New Order shouldnt be aiming for that.
As long as their stuff is still getting airplay in the big clubs then that list of old rockers is almost irrelevent.

Ah, okay. I don't really know the member's handwriting, I just assumed it was Bernards handwriting. That would explain why they were so different. Uh....I think maybe you yourself donated those? It seemed all of the stuff there was donated by you or Peter Hook.

They are actually on loan from me. I do have many more items that I may loan also. Have you seen also the giant gibson guitar designed by Peter Saville????
