John Barnes is up for re-doing his rap for New Order's World Cup anthem 'World In Motion', the band's Peter Hook has confirmed. Bassist Hook says the band get offered the chance to re-release the song – originally used in the 1990 event – at most World Cup campaigns, though this year Barnes has said he'd definitely be on board for contributing too. Hook added that in previous years other footballers have been approached about performing the rap, with David Beckham coming close in 2002 only for the FA not to allow him at the last minute.

"Tony Wilson lined up Beckham to do the rap and we were going to re-do the song," Hook explained. "But the FA then reconsidered it saying 'No, no, no we're going with Ant & Dec'." The FA are set to confirm more details about England's official World Cup 2010 song around the time of the tournament draw, which takes place in December (The Sun).http://www.nme.com/news/daily-gossip/47810

So are New Order recording the song, too, or is it just the rap? I thought they broke up?

A split up band re-releasing a track most fans don't like, what a great idea, it's like wilson and gretton have come back to life!

Next they'll have the great idea of only releasing it in scotland!

In Scottland only, and only as a triple 45rpm vynil collector's boxset... with each disc sold separetely and the empty box to be ordered from Warner's... who will of course put the wrong stickers on the wrong discs. So PUNK, isn't it? :evil4:
