after listening for a couple of weeks now its really grown on me. I really like it now. good album

This album is a cracker. The more you play it the more the songs grow. Apart from "Sink Or Swim" (overplayed) and "Head Into Tomorrow" (dull) I think the over 12 tracks are great.

Barneys most cohesive album since Electronic debut? I can hear shades of Times Change, Special, Love Vigilantes and (unfortunately) Working Overtime on tracks and theres a guitar in Running Out Of Luck sounds a bit Cure-ish.

Barney really delivers on the vocals and the melodies are very strong. I also like Jake Evens songs on the album. These Changes is excellent.

I think there are a few potential singles from this album: Summer Days On Holiday, This Is Home, Running Out of Luck, Runaway, Walk On Silver Water, These Changes.Although Ive still not heard Sink Or Swim on radio or seen video on music channels.

I stopped listening to the album for a few weeks (I'd overplayed it), and just came back to it again yesterday in the car. Not to exaggerate, but I think it sounds more bloody brilliant now than I did previously, especially "Summer Days". I'd go now from rating it a 6/10 to about an 8.

Yup it is a very good album, I gave it 8/10 also, I haven't listen to it for a while cause I played it to death, but I will pretty soon.

I agree with you entirely, except I love Runaway.

I'm really into that Higher, Wider, Deeper at the moment.

Wow. I hardly agree with you at all! "Twist of Fate" is still my favourite. "Running out of luck" is my 2nd favourite, though. "SLTS" is comfortably my favourite Jake track, although "These Changes" is a really well-written song.

On the whole I was a little disappointed with the 4 "extra tracks" that I've heard. "Walk on Silver Water" actually reminds me a bit of "Sabotage": not bad, but not great either. "Falling Trees" has a decent chorus but a poor verse - and Sumner's worst NCAT lyrics, which is some going on an album including "Dynamo". "Split the atom": hmmm, it's a waltz. Can't think of anything else that caught my attention about it .

Some days it's a 6/10 album, some days a 7. I can live with the lack of synths, bearing in mind Bernard's other "projects", but it sure suffers from a lack of pace.

My favorite tracks that I play over & over are:

"Twist of Fate,""Running Out of Luck,""Runaway," and "Walk on Silver Water."

The other tracks I like but aren't in love with as much are:

"Sink or Swim,""This is Home,""Poisonous Intent," and "Summer Days on Holiday."

The absolute gem of this album has to be "Running Out of Luck." God, I love that song. It's very New Order-ey! "Runaway" is a close second.

fit nice to the verses in Summer Days?

I can't seem to get past the thoughts "hooky's bass should go there and this song would just kick arse"... it hits me so often that it kinda throws off the whole experience. If I can ever get past this, I might be able to enjoy it for what it is, but until then.... its NO without Hooky, so lack luster from what it could be

I'm going to be playing it (and loving it) as much as NO/JD/Electronic, it's a truly great album IMHO.

I enjoy the album, it is better then WTFSC and Get Ready, just rather upset they couldn't make their New York date.

Listening to "This Is Home" now and a few others after a break. This album is fantastic, but I still can't decide whether I prefer it to WFTSC.

Highlights for me:

All in all... I would give it 8.5 out of 10. The good tracks are fantastic, its the mediocre tracks which let it down. A stripped-down NCAT with around 10/11 of the truly wonderful songs would guarantee a 10/10 rating from me.

Finally got the cd about a week ago. It's great!

Most of the reviews I've read for this were simply lazy garbage - 'this sounds like that NO song', 'that sounds like this NO song' - I don't think any of these sound blatantly like any other NO song. The worst-written review was, predictably, Pitchfork's.

It's great songwriting and has the same emotional sweep they've been doing their entire career. I don't really care if it's formulaic, conventional songwriting. It's a great formula that I'll probably never get tired of.

My only complaints: Barney's voice sounds really strained on the chorus of 'Runaway' ... and 'Falling Trees' is a definite low-point.

I actually love Head Into Tomorrow, I think Jake has an immense talent.

How can you say that 'FALLING TREES' is a GREAT song and one of my FAVORITE songs on the album, it has great lyrics and great music in it.

Totally agree. The guy has a great voice - the reviews writing him off were just ... stupid.
