Since Hooky decided that he'd had enough and walked some three years ago - yup, the anniversary of la finale in Buenos Aires is fast approaching, folks - I've considered all the aspects, read all the mud-slinging and bitter diatribes from both sides and have come to the following conclusion:

IT'S POSSIBLE THAT NEW ORDER WILL REFORM!

I think that Hooky especially feels bitter and not unreasonably sad but hankers after being part of New Order again. As good as Freebase is to him, his passion for the Order will always remain.

Barney likes to say "fuck him (Hooky)" but knows that NO are still a force to be reckoned with and he's defined by New Order and Joy Division as much as Hooky and Steve are. As successful as Electronic were and BL might be, Bernard will always be the voice of New Order.

Things may still be raw and painful but, given that there were similar hiatuses between 89-93 and 93-98, is i not beyond the realms of possibility that the hatchet could be buried in a few years' time and a reunion occur? The desire isn't there at the moment but it could be one day.

New Order -- the original four, including Gillian -- will reunite ... expressly to re-record the suckfest that is "World in Motion", thereby driving the final nail into the coffin that was their reputation.

It's also possible that Cameron Diaz & Angelina Jolie will finally agree to my suggestion of a threesome.

I really wish I could agree with you but I for one,think it's hopeless. Back then with their other break-ups, they had more things keeping them together. They had Factory Records, the Hacienda to keep going,plus Rob Gretton & Tony Wilson were still alive....even Gillian's not around anymore. This time....if they did get back together,it would take a miracle.

If you've read the various interviews Bernard has given to promote the Bad Lieutenant LP it's looking less and less likely that they (New Order) will reform by the month. Stranger things have happened but let's face it, not looking too healthy this time :shrug:

The key difference with the earlier splits notably the '93 to '98 hiatus seems to be that they all said simply nothing in the press regarding absolute finality; the standard line at the time I seem to recall was "New Order haven't split up, we just have no plans for the future". This was stated pretty much all through the various Other Two, Electronic and Monaco LP promotional campaigns where they easily could have let rip on each other but didn't. Then round about '98 the Gretton arranged meeting occurred, grievances were aired and they eventually came back with "Brutal".

This time it seems much more vitriolic, legal and well, personal. This may simply be due to the fact it's the Internet age and any and all off-hand comments from the band will be reported widely and instantly for all and sundry to dissect but still.... it does seem to be a wee bit worse this time.

Hope they do come back but I fear by the time old grudges have subsided they'll be approaching their 60s and Hooky himself has previously reported having issues with performing Perfect Kiss at such an age :uhoh: you can see his point to a degree.

Would be nice to see all the nastiness subside even if they didn't reform. Hooky's booky has been a critical success and his recent promo tour was very well received... similarly with Bernard who is happy with his new band and most of this forum has tickets to see them on their upcoming tour. Steve's also enjoying drumming for BL.

Could be worse!

Yes, Angelina's doubtful, but you could probably manage Octomom instead...:)
