Great interview thanks for making, doesn't seem to bitter to Bernard - my suggestion to Hooky is to follow what BL have done with their release, share a few tracks to get everyone interested but keep a few tracks back and have a few ltd edition formats to ensure everyone purchases when released.

Hooky was actually really complimentary about Bernard, which was nice.
And as for the Mickey Mouse ears, we realised it, but decided to film it like that anyway. It does look funny! ;)

I'm just glad that I don't have to keep quiet about it all any more. Only three people knew about the interview before it happened (apart from Hooky and James). I wasn't allowed to say much more than "it happened" before we published it.
Very diplomatic from Mr Hook,could we be even thinkin that a reconcilliation could be on the cards

Thought it was Freebass at first, but then i could only hear one bass so went with NO (why, i don't know got everything by them)

Bass Bandits had at least two bass tracks in there. The High part and the backing. I know what you mean though.
The rare live material? Who knows? My guess is that as Hooky has collected bootlegs and recorded gigs himself over the years, there may well be some JD and NO rarities "in the vaults" but it's anyone's guess when they would be released.
he's mentions in 'exactly how to run a club' that rob bought everyone sony recorders and he used them to record a fair few NO gigs placing it on the mixing desk or whatever, also the Hac CCTV footage
but more than likely its soundboards of gigs we've already got
nothing we havn't already got right.

Chris that was a fucking excellent interview mate.Really frank and revealing. Can't believe he'd want to run another club again.Another Manchester club!!! Also that FREEBASS aren't on a label.
Thanks Eimi and Cheers Monty. I think it was more luck than judgement on my part though. The poor guy had been at BBC Breakfast for about 6am, then done another six interviews. That one was done around 5pm and he still had another couple to do. I'm 42 and I was knackered going to London for a day - he's ten years older!
I like the fact that Hooky was cool enough to think, "It's NOOL, I can be myself" rather than having to be too guarded, watch the language, etc. I think perhaps it was a more comfortable situation. Chatting in a coffee bar will always be more relaxed than sitting on a studio sofa!

Very interesting part where Hooky speaks about music download. It puts a face on the negative impact this has on the artist.
For the record, NewOrderOnline never encouraged people to download New Order/Joy Division tracks or from any of the side projets. As I understand, though, several users of the forums over the years have indicated where to download such music when it was available somewhere online, which is quite hard to control. This problem is wider and hurts the whole entertainment industry.
I may be wrong, but at the end of the day, I think this website had a much more positive impact on the income of New Order members than the contrary. The band members, their management and their record company would have had to pay tens of thousands of pounds / dollars to get the same publicity and exposure this site has provided them for free over the years.
But I do understand Hooky's point about music download!
P.S. The Mickey Mouse ears got me laughing throughout the interview... I would pay to see Hooky's face when he'll see that!
Really nice. I wish Hooky would consider writing the new order book and not the joy division book... I know he has the first-hand account about JD which would be interesting, but joy division is ground that is too worn (out) by now.
